What a lovely game
breathtaking visually and simplistic but enjoyable gameplay, had to play around with my GPU and CPU OC settings a bit to get it more stable but wow its a lovely game.

Terrible game that's terribly expensive!
No nostalgia here like all other reviews; this game sucks. It doesn't look good, it doesn't play good, it's not fun and it's very short. I bought it because it was on sale for $2.50. The fact that the game is over in 1 hour and has no replayability and yet they are charging $25 for this is nothing short of a crime. I finished it on normal missing only 0-3 enemies on each level and 1 death on level 6. It took me literally one hour. There's a cheat menu after you beat it where you can level skip and get god mode and stuff, but there is no point because there is nothing left to do or see. The only good thing was the music. But that's it. Even the sound is bad. There is no impact to anything. The game is really dull. No power ups, no branching paths like Star Fox or After Burner Climax. There is no story, you don't know who you are, what the factions are and why you need to fight. There is talk about a Dark Dragon in opening text but it's called Prototype Dragon in-game so they can't even get right something that basic. It doesn't look good, but environments are servicable. Enemies look like crap and are hardly distinguishable. Bosses are mostly nonsense shapes. Nothing animates well. Your dragon's movements hardly match whatever flying is onscreen. You shoot a gun that looks like a dumb rock. It doesn't play well. Movement is bad, aiming isn't great, shooting single shots sucks so the lockon shot is what you'll use 99% of the time, no exaggeration. There is no attack telegraphing so many attacks are poorly done. The game's gimmick is that you can rotate the camera around you in the 4 main directions to find and shoot baddies. But you can only move when you are facing North. You are stuck in one place in the other 3. This makes dodging anything terrible. And your only indication of enemies is a minimap in the top right. So you'll be looking at that more than what's in front of you. 1 star for the music and 1 star because it's technically a functional thing.

I don't have any nostalgia for this game. it's a Star Fox like rail shooter. part of the gimmick is you can look left right and behind you but that gimmick also contributes to some of the annoyance. You can't really dodge when looking other directions and enemies sometimes swarm around making the action hectic. as for the general play, there's no powerups or anything. dodging in general feels bad. the game likes to get you right up close lots of times and your hitbox is huge. Combined with the way aiming and moving are combined often I felt like it was nearly impossible to dodge effectively. Story: what story? some cool set pieces but i have not idea what I was doing, who I was fighting for or why I was doing it. game is also pretty short. couple hours maybe. not really inclined to eek out every last enemy for 100% kill rate. Least it was only $2.50 on sale

On rail shooter bullet hell
I never played the original, so I was curious, if it warranted a remake it had to be good, and well, I'm not really impressed , the controls are smooth, the graphics are gorgeous, it has that feeling of early 3D with some serious facelift, which has its own nostalgia to it,. Unfortunately the game is very short and there's a huge difficulty spike towards the end with enemies shooting at you before you can even react,, and since dodging and aiming is done with the same stick you have to get in the enemy line of fire in order to hit them yourself. It also features an arcaic "credit" system and you can only die so many times before is game over. I guess this is great for old fans, but for a newcomer it has some serious design flaws that limit the enjoyment of the game. Also, even tho I lowered the volume on the menu, during cutscnes volume jumps right up to default levels which is annoying at best and hurtful at worst. Finally, if you are using a PS controller make sure to use DS4windows and change the settings to show the controller as a Xbox controller or the keybinds will be all scrambled.
