Overboard! is a tense, highly replayable detective game from the creators of 80 Days and Heaven's Vault. 

Blackmail a spy. Fall in love. Murder a rival. Cheat at cards.  Drug a witness. Lie, befriend, betray, console, sneak, seduce, steal, borrow, pray, eavesdrop, kill...

There are clues, evidence, suspects, accusations, secrets and lies. 

You’ll need all your cunning, coercion and charisma to ensure that someone else takes the fall. 

DYNAMIC NARRATIVE CLOCKWORK

  • Next-gen visual novel: go where you want, when you want, and say what you want
  • Simulated story-world: other characters move and act independently, remember everything they see and hear, and everything you do
  • Every minute counts: you have eight hours to escape justice. Time is always ticking
  • Who can you trust? Some characters are friendly, and some are out to get you. Who will you befriend? And who will you betray?

I love the ship and the personalities that reside on it, each with its own issues and secrets. I would love to see how the developers can expand it, maybe telling another story from a different perspective or by moving the protagonist into another space. Overboard! represents a clear way for the narrative and choice-driven adventure title to evolve in cool ways.

Gem of a game

What a lovely little game! The concept of a reverse murder mystery (you know who did the murdering - it was you - and your primary concern is to avoid the punishment) is appealing in itself, but what shines in particular is the execution. The relationships between various persons on board, the numerous possibilities that are revealed in the course of repeat playthroughs - everything is very well thought through and nicely presented, with the form matching the content. If I had to gripe about something, it'd be the lack of a full voice over that might have given the characters an additional layer of depth, but I adore this game even without it.

Beautiful, but unrefined

An "Agatha Christie" choose-your-own-adventure. A great idea, created with a limiting budget. I would've loved to see a full voice over, basic animations, more interconnections between actions, etc. It also feels like a mobile game (which it is, for less than half the price at $6.50). On subsequent runs, the "fast forward" button is painfully slow, and you are only allowed to replay a scene once per play-through. Sometimes it seems like things should be an option that aren't (bashing Anders over the head with the dolphin statue). And sometimes certain characters seem to react as if you had made different choices than you actually did on a given run. I'd love to see more games like this, and am I grateful Inkle Ltd took a chance with this one. I only wish this one was given more refinement, or a price tag to match the final product.
