Build your settlement on the newly discovered continent of Northgard! Assign your Vikings to various jobs and manage your resources carefully to survive harsh winters and ferocious foes. Expand your clan strategically by chasing conquest, fame, lore or trade victory.
Survive and conquer the unforgiving wilderness of Northgard by mastering the unique attributes of the many different clans that inhabit the continent! Each clan has its own unique specificities, bonuses and features, introducing new ways of playing and methods to achieve victory.
Conquest mode.
Choose your clan and fight through a number of unique scenarios and situations! Northgard Conquest is a standalone game mode that can be played solo or co-op, with a succession of various challenges offering a gaming expansion of 100 hours.
Multiplayer mode.
Play in multiplayer with or against your friends in various game modes! Pick the lobby you want and face off against other players to experience a unique level of challenges. If you’re a veteran at the game, test your might in ranked lobbies to prove you’re the real king of Northgard!
Story mode.
The Viking High King is murdered and his Regal Horn is stolen by a man named Hagen. This event kickstarts a saga that will take Rig, his son and heir accompanied by his right-hand man Brand through the new continent of Northgard to discover the reasons behind his father’s assassination.
It looks good, the music is nice, it's a nice addition to the strategy cannon, but...
I'm not sure how much replayability there is in this and it would be nice if things from other games were in it:
Speed control slow/medium/fast gameplay this would be an absolute boon.
Scaling is "off", you can play against the computer but, it really becomes a grind in the later stages of battle - yeah you can buy resources but it takes forever.
The 2.8.4.25963 patch breaks all the fun.
* Sound suddenly stops playing
* In single player mode you can no longer select the number of opponents (I see no use for this change...)
* The UI isn't consistent any mode and too nested
I picked this game up because it was on sale for 50% off and I realized that I had not played a RTS in ages. 50+ in game hours later, and I'm still hooked. Definitely worth every cent I spent on it.
As other have said, the game plays like a cross between Settlers, Age of Empires and Civilization, and it is a lot of fun. It's fairly easy to learn, but can be devilishly hard to master. There are many aspects to one's economy, never enough workers, and everything is a valuable resource - food to feed your clan, wood to build more buildings, stone to upgrade them, iron to improve your workers and warriors, gold to pay for just about anything, lore to learn new abilities, even happiness, which decides how quickly your clan grows. Mix in the fact that the map is divided into tiles, which have to be colonized (and often conquered) first, and most of them are unique in what type of and how many buildings they can support, and you can have some pretty hard to choices to make...
And on top of everything, there's the neutral factions that will regularly invade your territory (kobold, draugr, or even just wolves), and the other players who don't exactly have your best interests at heart either, so you'd better not just focus on having a healthy economy but also a strong enough warband to defend and expand your territory with...
All in all, a great gem of a game that rekindled my love for the whole RTS genre.
First of all - no, this is not new Warcraft, it is something completely different. The graphics are kind of the same type as original third Warcraft, but that's it - gameplay wise - completely different story here.
I like the slower pace (in singleplayer), the variability of clans, the focus on economy over combat, while combat is required for ecomony expansion. It is... interesting approach to RTS.
You need to capture zones - first zone must be explored, than cleared of enemy, then colonised. Each zone has limit of buildings, each building has limit of workers. You need to expand continuously... This creates pressure on existing economy, aside seasons (winter menas lower production), events and enemy attacks.
Campaign is interesting, but so far (10h in game) not for the story. It is a great introduction to available clans, strategies, maps and mechanics.
I like this game a lot!
Having played many civilisation sims I thought this was worth a shot, but actually it wasn't. The game logic is poor and predictable, and the more you play the more predictable it becomes. Its not expensive so give it a punt if that's your thing but for me wasn't worth the time.
