Decent space exploration experience

There is some real magic hidden in this game. Ever since I was playing X-Wing in MS-DOS I fantasized about the type of game that this is. If only I could I just take my X-Wing and run off to find myself a Dagobah or Hoth... A few patches in, it now runs well (not great). It also delivers considerable variety in the planets you can find. A lot of the things people claimed were missing at launch turned out to be things they simply hadn't discovered yet. I've seen dinosaurs, flying space eels, vast oceans, engaged in a huge space battle, found underwater temples, and taken countless pictures of gorgeous sci-fi sights. The game is, however, very flawed. Navigation between systems remains abysmal. Shooting is clunky (not really "bad"). The same can be said for space flight and combat. The crafting is simplistic. The animal behaviors are simplistic. The AI interactions are very shallow at best. All in all, a lot of the negatives you have heard of it ARE true. So why am I giving it 4 stars? Because DESPITE its flaws, it has delivered experiences I have always wanted; that I hoped this game would deliver; that I wasn't sure I would ever have; and NMS has provided just what I wanted out of the game - even if there IS room for it to improve. 30 hours in, and I am still having fun. I am almost certain that people complaining about barren worlds, soulless grinds, etc simply had bad luck in where they started and threw in the towl after being faced with a few dud planets in a row. Because there's some magical stuff out there, provided you are willing to leave a dud planet behind and keep exploring. This game is a completionist's nightmare, because you have to be willing to cut your losses with a lame planet, rather than getting crushed by the grind to 100% a planet that just doesn't interest you. The game is about discovery, so go discover. Keep moving and exploring. That is what the experience is about, and where it shines most brightly. NMS is sublimely relaxing.

A game with many hours of fun.

Great game, you will encounter many players, missions, planets and forms to build your own base, It can be builded on land, underground, underwater, etc. It have many skins to obtain by playing missions on the nexus! Great game.

Scratch that Space Itch

I bought No Man's Sky when it first came out, then promptly deleted it and requested a refund, as many promises went unfulfilled at launch. I returned to NMS during the Beyond update on Game Pass and was blown away by all the new content. This game completely scratches that void-itch I felt when playing Starfield and Star Wars Outlaws. The lastest update Voyagers could have been a full price DLC if it was developed under many other company. Hello Games has gone above and beyond to make it right. As of this review, NMS is 60% off on Steam, but I decided to buy it at full price on GOG instead. Hello Games is a rare breed of developer that deserves our appreciation. Vote with your wallet.

Relaxed exploration, nothing more

Apparently I'm one of the lucky few, as on my rig the game runs smoothly all maxed out apart from the occasional, rare hiccup. The only bug I've encountered so far is the inability to properly reconfigure controls; my generic brand gamepad is not recognized, and the same applies to the fourth and fifth buttons of my mouse. The gameplay mechanics are simple and the aims are repetitive. However, at no point has No Man's Sky promised a game with complex mechanics bristling with action and suspense. People who expect that have obviously been waiting for some other game than No Man's Sky. NMS is all about slow-paced, relaxed exploration: what's behind the next hill, what's on that planet over the horizon, what awaits in the next solar system? The simple resource gathering, crafting and inventory management serve no other purpose than sort of forcing the player to explore the worlds he or she encounters. For what it is, and promised to be, NMS is a great game. It's fun to explore and discover new planets, places and creatures without a sense of urgency. It's not a game for people who want action and events.

Liking it more than I thought I would

Game is running well for me @ 1920 x 1200 i7-4790k 16 GB DDR3 RAM 7970 1Ghz Edition w/ AMD 16.8.1 drivers. 4TB HGST HDD (OS Drive is SSD) Windows 10 Anniversary Update I'm finding the game quite enjoyable despite the fact it's a repetitive due to the procedural generation techniques. It's quite relaxing and good to play between more intense games. It hasn't crashed on me yet in over 20 hours of play. It also runs very well at max settings -- very little stuttering or frame dropping. Hopefully Hello Games continues to support this game with more free content (as they promised they would). It's weakest point so far is repetition in game play and content.
