...which is also the first one I had played out of the MK saga. But time has passed, and I must admit that 5 stars was too much for MK4 (not even gold edition, which GOG still haven't realised), but its technical ingenuities (it was the first one ''3D''), for its time, are not to be discarded so easily. 3D, but not really (the very ''first'' one would be the one after, the acclaimed Deadly Alliance), MK4 finds itself in a ''weird'' spot, between the rigid but fun gameplay of the first trilogy (not the game, I mean the actually 3...4...5 ''arcade'' games) and the nuances of the MK that would follow. Still, and perhaps even so for its uniqueness, deserves to be at least tried once by fans, and even not so much. Simply put, simple, but extremely fun! P.S. Plus, this is the game where I found my main (BOI) Quan chi! and the best announcer out of the entire MK saga!

So your options are: 1. Use the analog stick of your controller 2. Use your keyboard 3. Try out different methods to make the d-pad work If you're fine with that, then go for it. Works out of the box on Windows 10.

Tis one of the games I grew up with, and it was my first MK title to have ever played. Great nostalgia trip just seeing it on here, and honestly, it was a great game for it's time. Still is. Bless GOG for adding it.

I was a really big fan of the original 3 MK games having played them all first at the arcade and later on home console & MS-DOS. Personally I switched over to the Tekken series after that for the better gameplay and more imaginative characters and backgrounds. MK4 did a respectable job in the graphics department, maintained the excellent music and Sound FX the series has been known for (the main reason I bought this on GOG was to revisit the soundtrack - there are 14 .ogg files in the Music subfolder which were originally redbook audio tracks on CD). The gameplay just wasn't as tight anymore with MK4. Try picking Sub Zero and launch and ice attack - see how long it takes for him to conjure up and actually release the ice and you'll see what I mean. I pretty much gave up on the MK series up until Mortal Kombat Komplete was released on PC (a game which I do recommend). I do recall enjoying the Mortal Kombat Mythologies spinoff game and would buy it if released on GOG but I have no expectation since there was no PC version
