Possible fix for the Crash at Escaton Palace. I searched for solutions to see what was available before purchase; at $1.50 on sale, I think it's worth it.
I found this solution:
Go to the game's music folder and add a 16.mp3.
If it still crashes, add a 1.mp3.
I assume you would add any mp3, just change the name. I hope this helps...
Here is where I found the info, if anyone's interested. I don't know if I can post likes, so you'll have to add the two dots...

I remember when I was young, waking up as early as I could, creep my way to my old computer without waking anyone up, grabbing the disc for this game, and playing it until the rest of the house woke up to me shooting my bow at a bunch of lizardman, pirates or just simply having a dragon in my party. This game made me into what I believe is a true RPG fan.
However to get to this game I had to go through MM6 and MM7 which I did take a preference to MM7 however this was the first Might and Magic I had ever progressed to end game situational content. Not only did I have incredible amounts of fun playing this I just could not simple save and quit, I had to complete this quest or side quest or I had to come back with a vengeance to those creatures who killed me after hours of clearing through dungeons, forests and mountain tracks.
It may just seem like I am buttering this game up, but that is what this masterpiece of a game needs, now I know that it may seem unfair to rank this as an elite game but im afraid that this is that elite game that shines down on all other games or is looked up too by others.
What can you expect from this?
Attention - You have to pay attention there is none of this, engage conversation, skip conversation, go to checkpoint business as you find in modern games, this game makes you read the quest givers demands, and forces the player to fight a powerful foe or collect this plant that is only accessible here.
Compelling Story - I will not spoil the story for those who actually have not completed it or are looking to play this for the first time, but the story will take you several weeks to complete, assuming you played like myself, which was level every party member equally and ensure that they are mastered in all skills.
Skill Sets are Unique - although you may find yourself having many of the same races in your party you can easily ensure that they each take a skill path of your choosing, there is no auto level button to be pressed, it is your choice, why would you need to auto level with such a great game like this.
Items - There are a plethora of items in this game, maybe even more, so it is up to the player to find these mythical items who knows you may be able to find something so special that no one else has found it or had it drop for them.
Races - They added the races I always wanted to be in Might and Magic 7, when I first fought the dragon I was amazed at how well it was presented (keep in mind I was 7 years of age) and the fact they made it possible for a dragon to be in your party made it even the more better. A Minotaur is available to be played as, vampires dark elves and even more.
This is not your average RPG - This is by far one of the best RPG's I have ever player in my life, and I have been through all of the Ultima Franchise, Final Fantasy's, Might and Magics, Baldurs Gates, Icewind Dale, Planescapes, Fallouts, Elder Scrolls, neverwinter nights and Arcanum series of games and I will say that Might and Magic 6 - 8 are the best out of all of them, and its not to promote this in a buyist way its merely the fact that this is the truth.
I know I could go on and on about how amazing this game is, but I will end it with this, if you are a fan of endless RPG's buy this game. If you have yet to play this game, buy this game, give it a try, you will not be disappointed.
If you know nothing of the might and magic series, but love old dungeon crawlers and RPGs, give a chance to might and magic 7. I think that is the best introduction to the world and the gameplay. These games are extremely chill to play, I found myself installing one of them every year in the past 20 years. Notable mention that these were basically one of the first open-world games: not entirely true since the global map was cut up to smaller segments so the hw can handle it, but you could roam freely on the world map right from the start, and they even had a fly spell
Might and magic 8 was the weakest of the MM6-7-8 (the three last pre-Ubisoft might and magic games, not mentioning the infamous MM9), shallower locations, npcs, quests, but still somehow entertaining.
Why I still urge you to buy it is because of the MM678 merge mod. It only needs MM8, but as the name suggest merges all the three games with an added minor storyline. It also contains every visual upgrades other mods provide =resolution mods, better controls, unofficial patches), and you can freely move between Jadame, Enroth and Antagarich. It also fixes and balances things, for example you can reach level 140, but the enemies gets bolstered above 50, so the challenge remains (opposed to the vanilla games where you can easily get overpowered after a few hours if you have experience with the games).
Also if you do this please buy the other 2 games too. You don't need to, but it is only fair.
This is the best way to experience these games, even if you just want to play one story.
Ok, I will have to confess... I played this M&M before I played any others, but I enjoyed it. This is definitely a game that I replay quite a bit, and I have played it quite a bit since I got this game on a disc format. this game is definitely one for RPG players and definitely one to add to the wishlist.
The gameplay is relatively simple, run around, kill creatures, level up, get stronger armor/equipment, save the world. Simple, yet not as easy as it seems. Getting off Dagger wound island is a task in itself. And then there are all the other sidequests, main quest portions, promotional quests, the list goes on. The artifacts that you can get in a game may not always be the same ones (although quest items will always be where you find it the first time), so there is replayability.
The graphics in this game are good, and still holds today. Animations can get a little strange, but most of the time, people do some funny things with the creature/NPC animations.
There is a bit of a letdown, however. There is no final boss that you must defeat, who is insanely difficult. However, there is a dungeon that does that for you anyway (you have to figure out how, it's optional, and I have never been bothered to find it.) But the game itself is (generally) very smooth and progressional. Also, it has consequential quests. For example, 2 quests are riding on 1 item, and depending on what you do with the item will result in very different results and consequences (I'm trying hard not to spoil the game, so that you can figure it out yourself).
Another part of this game is the in-game Acromage, which is quite peculiar. It is strange, and while this is not the first iteration of the game, it melds into a sidequest. Oh, and yes, you do win money (only once!) if you win the game, and yes, it's reeeeeeeeally addictive.
Overall, the game is a great game for the franchise. A game that every RPG fan should pick up.
— The setting of Jadame paints the world of Might & Magic with fresh colors. Visiting Minotaur cities and troll villages feels rather exotic, even by today’s RPG standards. But the story itself feels rather weak in comparison with two of the game’s predecessors.
— Same sprite figures, same poor textures, same low polygonal forts, and mountains, same very limited draw distance. Mind you, that Might & Magic VIII was released the same year as Deus Ex.
— Up to five characters may be in the player’s party, but only one of them can be created at the beginning of the game. In fact, you have only this one hero, and all the rest are hirelings, you meet along the way.
— Class special abilities and an option to hire damn dragons to the party make the game ferociously imbalanced, and the combat turns into unchallenging grind too early in the game (relatively to previous games in the series).
— Some non-combat challenges have been added into the game: like platforming sections, for example. Jump over the chasm here, jump onto the moving platform there, that sort of stuff. It just that the jump mechanics have remained here the same since Might & Magic VI, and it was used there just to save your party from occasionally getting stuck between the textures. So yeah, those platforming sections are quite a pain in the ass.
— The interface have been renovated, mostly through getting rid of the side panel. It made it somewhat cleaner looking.
— You can play Acromage in the taverns, and there is no boss fight in the end: just an old-school puzzle to solve.
And there’s pretty much everything new you can tell about Might & Magic VIII. The rest of the game systems remained unchanged.
So on the dawn of the new millennium, Might & Magic series has been showing some vicious signs of stagnation.
