Don't waste your time and money
Choppy jerky gameplay, voice actors are terrible, depictions of troop actions really strange (officer was at parade rest and had a huddle in the middle of a rocket attack), weapon sounds very unconvincing. It's no wonder nobody cared about this game. It's not a diamond in the rough. Go find a copy of Vietcong to play instead.

Balance issues are the only problem
My first time starting it, my character's texture didn't load properly and my hands looked like I was on acid. I threw a football at a guy which hit him in the bag so hard that it crashed to desktop. Perfect Vietnam simulator. Every subsequent run has worked as intended. The gameplay is solid, there's a variety of guns that all have satisfying sound and feel, the story is great, the voice acting is decent enough, the soundtrack's a little pretentious but I'll take that over boring or annoying. Overall, a decent game. I only have two complaints: The first is that some levels have ammo-a-plenty and others don't. Usually you can pickup enemy weapons but there's one level in particular where you're stuck with the Thompson and you only get what ammo you get minus a pickup mid way through. I beat the level by choosing which enemies really needed to be shot so I could clear a path and just finish the level. The second is that the VC are borderline racist caricatures of how they were depicted in American propaganda, they don't do hit-and-run tactics but instead just stand out in the open to be shot, and jungle traps are only story related set pieces rather than actual punji pits that you need to avoid. All in all, it's a fine enough linear shooter for the time with zero replay value. Pick it up on a sale to kill an afternoon or two and then forget about it.

Great, but with some major caveat's
I enjoyed it. I love the Vietnam setting and the characters/plot feel believable and help to draw me in. Its focused on a tense "realistic for 2004" feel. To accomplish this the game is very unforgiving. There's pretty much only one way to play, and that's as a cover based FPS. You need to assess the environment and then jump from cover to cover, using the zoom focus/lean to peak enemies and clear a path to the next bit of cover. It felt suspenseful for me as you can easily die if the area is not clear when moving to more cover. It uses well distant checkpoints to increase the difficulty but also frustration. A limited saves per level system would have been much more appreciated. It is quite scripted and your squad is not very bright. For a 2004 Unreal 2.0 game however, it does quite well for graphics and AI. In the end, I felt like a rookie who had made it through hell. The game achieved it's goal well, considering the release date and engine.

Запускается по желанию левой пятки. Если это всё-таки происходит, то раз через три (в лучшем случае) и после нескольких минут неотключаемого фонового звука: процесс уже висит в диспетчере задач, но картинку пока не показывают. Открывается в окне. При переводе на полный экран через Alt-Enter можно наслаждаться качеством вроде 800х600 (короче, минимальным). И главная приправа в этом несъедобном блюде: при попытке зайти в настройки игра вылетает. Проблеме много лет, она ещё до появления Windows 10 и даже 7 существовала. Ползанье по куче форумов, в том числе англоязычных, ничего не дало. Судя по всему, решения просто нет. Подал на возврат. Надеюсь, гоговцы не будут упрямиться и пойдут мне навстречу. Цена вопроса небольшая, но и платить за воздух я не хочу, как не хочу и играть без субтитров и в низком разрешении.

Good but frustrating at times
The game is quite alright - but either there is a bug in the game/version - or it was simple GOG Galaxy that twice during the game decided to kick me out of the game in a crash... (might have been GOG Galaxy due to an update), but this made me having to redo some missions - just as the mission was over and was about to make the cut scene - crash, and welcome back to Windows. The current progress is not saved. The game uses point saves, but the save points can't be loaded; if you start a mission you play it through or loose progress; if a mission is over you can stop and start again next time on the next mission in the campaign. This is... actually fine, but a bit annoying when the game crashes. The game is what I like; a first person shooter; you can use various Vietnam War weapons - both American weapons, as well as you can pick up some of the NVA and VC weapons - and you can change firemode on them. As a soldier I am usually training to fire fast and accurate my M16 in the semi-auto mode, which I also do a lot in computer games when I can - and I hit a lot better playing games when using Semi-auto rather than Full-auto/Burst mode. I did use the AK47 quite a lot - and in the start of the game I loved to use the M1 Carbine and the M14. The missions also gets harder throughout the game, which does make it less boring to play - and can really piss you off when you fight the same sequence over and over again! I really love the trivia/quote loading screens, the small videos before each campaign starts, and the pre- and post-mission letters - as well as the condolence letters sent back to the family when you die. An interesting thing that I personally do not see much in games are that you play as a black person where it is not an active choice for you to make.
