To light a candle is to cast a shadow
Behind the shadow of reality, an enchanted world awaits illumination. Experience the magical journey of a young boy and his companion as they solve puzzles and trace back the memories of old, brought to life with visually stunning, wordless cinematics.
Enter the ancient tower that stands at the edge of the world and discover the hand-drawn cinematics, intricate puzzles and haunting music of this indie gem.
Traditional frame by frame character animation
12 frames per second, 3 layers per frame. Over 250 animations and 20 minutes of cinematics. A nostalgic and time-consuming process - but really worth the challenge for a small indie team of four.
Single player mode with dual character control
Solve puzzles from different perspectives. Discover a story of true courage with two playable characters drawn together through an inseparable bond.
Think outside of the box
Spark your imagination and solve a wide variety of puzzles, presented in gorgeous hand-drawn environments. Puzzles work standalone, requiring no 'hidden items' or player backtracking.
LESS reading, MORE cinematics
We replaced a dialogue system with a series of beautifully hand-animated cinematics telling a mysterious story.
Engaging Original Soundtrack
Our composer created an original soundtrack, designed to immerse the player in the emotional highs and lows of the story, kindling goose-bumps along the journey.
A pure puzzle game, which is very welcome because there aren’t many like it.
A bit short for its price, but felt worth it anyway because of the well-designed puzzles, the great atmosphere and the story, which is a small puzzle itself. While you’ll experience most of it just by playing the game, attention to details will help in understanding it better.
LUNA: The Shadow Dust is a linear point-and-click puzzle game that follows a boy on his journey up a mysterious tower. Along the way, he makes friends with a cat-like creature, and the duo must work together to solve puzzles and reveal more of the story.
The puzzles are self-contained. There's no inventory and no need to go back to previous areas to find some essential clue that you missed. By and large it also successfully avoids pixel hunting. Difficulty ranges from very easy to moderate, although a couple of puzzles border on tedious with the repetition required.
The hand-drawn art, music, puzzles, and story work together to create an atmosphere that feels like a surrealist children's book or animated short. There are also definite echoes of Machinarium and Gorogoa. You'll never forget that you're playing an indie game, but the presentation is otherwise on point and professional.
There's a lot of interactive fiction that works without any type of dialogue, and LUNA styles itself as one of those games. Much of the story is revealed through animated cutscenes. Unfortunately, I often felt I only vaguely understood what the writers were trying to get at. Some simple narration in voice or text form might have been able to help in this case.
The game gets bonus points from me for a couple of really good features on the main menu: (1) a "map" of the tower that lets you replay any puzzle room you have completed, and (2) the ability to rewatch any of the cutscenes you have unlocked.
For most people, LUNA will clock in between two and five hours on a first playthrough. There's a place in the world for games like this one, and I'd like to see the team behind it make more. At the same time. I can understand why some might feel they got shorted.
At the end of the day I wasn't blown away. Nevertheless, as somebody who enjoys these type of games, LUNA: The Shadow Dust was a pleasant way to spend an evening.
I really enjoyed this game, the puzzles were the best, but no all. It has a really good music, beautiful hand drawing and an intersting history. The only part i didn't like was the slowlness, but like i said, is my opinion.
с удовольствием прошёл с детьми 7-8 лет.
половину задачек решили сами, половину с помощью. прекрасно нарисована. кат-сцены вполне тянут на неплохой мультфильм. но пройдя раз забросили.
Short relative to some but still doesn't feel too short. There's enough of a story to keep you going (I really hate puzzles with no connection to anything in the game / story - "house of da vinci" I'm looking a you) . the puzzle are great - that means they are not easy but if you keep looking around you will get more progress and solve. had to look up just one in a walkthrough and still think i was just a little impatient.
The animation is simple but still beautiful and the use of light is really good.
All in all i would buy this again and i might get to play one more time as i see there's a secret achievement i missed
