Better-ish graphics, worse gameplay SR1

I do enjoy the improved graphics, though many textures retain the old angular geometries. The changes to gamepad controls are, however, a total disaster. The camera work is much worse and jittery. The total control one had on the Playstation version, which allowed perfectly aiming projectiles in all directions, and smoothing placing the camera behind the character for excellent navigation, is now gone. A self-inflicted gameplay tragedy by the lastest "innovative" developers.

...and yet, I lived.

Having played through the first part of the remaster, Soul Reaver 1, I can confidently say this is the best the game has ever looked and played. Every detail was painstakingly improved from the models of the inhabitants of the all but ruined world of Nosgoth to the environments and texture work present throughout. With the ability to toggle between the remastered visuals and the original at any time, one can truly appreciate all of the work that has gone into the realization of this passion project. More immersive than ever with the restoration of day/night cycles cut from the original game, I was able to see one of my favorite games of all time in a literal new light (or absense of it), torches now having more use than they did previously, light casted just enough to see ahead of the player. The titular Soul Reaver was able to provide its own illumination, creating an organic means of traversal if I had need, an eerie blue glow radiating upon the ground and in water. Most impressive of all for me was the effort made to include honest to goodness animations for lip-synching, giving the interactions between characters a greater depth of realism the PSX couldn't deliver at the time. While that may seem like a small detail in this modern age of gaming, to see each conversation presented dare I say naturally, breathed new vampiric unlife into what was already a technical marvel for its time and a classic experience not to be missed for die-hard fans and newcomers alike! BUY THIS GAME AND SUPPORT THE STELLAR RESURRECTION OF A CORNERSTONE OF GAMING HISTORY!

Great but could use some TLC

Really happy this exists, but I hope they keep refining it. Obviously the new character models and textures look great, but lighting, water, FX & additional details like foliage, environmental models etc. could benefit from some much welcome extra work. I hope with a few patches they bring it to the next level, like they did with Tomb Raider. Still, a must buy already.

Excellent remaster

Been playing Sould Reaver 1 for a few hours now and it's as awesome as I remember but now in HD. They squashed a few bugs... intriduced a few new ones, and updated the graphics. They even added a map but it's pretty useless. Anyway, this is my recommnded way to experience Soul Reaver at the moment.
