Don't buy doesn't even run

The game wont even run, i have tried for 2 or 3 hours to get it to work right.

Won't work on modern system

I was excited when i saw King's Quest-Mask of Eternity here on gog, to relive one of the most impactful PC games from my childhood but...it won't work on modern windows and couldn't find a workaround to get it even to start the game itself is worth a play in my opinion, very dark and immersive athmosphere i hope it get's added to the game preservation program it would be amazing to get to play it again after all these years about the other one i have no opinion or experience i never really cared about the point n' click KQ games

I enjoyed them both.

Back in the day, I loved the Kings Quest games and I even loved KQ8. I never understood why people were so upset about it. It was a different type of game but it still had elements of the games that had gone before. It was a nice blend and it opened me up to other types of games. Up until that point, I had mostly played click and walk adventure games as I wasn't so good at the other popular games of my youth. With the exception of Alien Invaders. I might not have started expanding out into other games if it wasn't for KQ8. While I miss the fact that you don't see people making the click and walk's anymore, although hidden object puzzle games seem to be filling that void nowdays, I never felt KQ8 ever took anything away from the rest of the KQ games. Nor did adding some of the puzzle aspects to a third person action game ruin it for me. I found it to be an enjoyable game that I loved as much as any other title in the KQ series.

Mask of Eternity - still love it

I bought this only for Mask of Eternity and my review is only based on that. I played this game when I was 9 or 10 years old, and I've wanted to re-play it for a long time. The mood set in this game holds true throughout the entire experience. It's dark and gloomy. It has a classic medieval fantasy feel. The voiced dialogue is well done, and the music sets the tone perfectly. The puzzles are reminiscent of point-and-click adventure games, in that you must pick up everything that isn't nailed down, and no one tells you exactly what to do next. You have to think about it and find the way yourself (or trial and error, or use a guide if you get stuck). Movement and camera controls are terribly clunky by today's standards. I'd only recommend it if you can accept that and enjoy the rest of the game despite knowing how much better it could be if it was made today. The graphics aren't great by today's standards either, but they work well to create the world and atmosphere. There were some technical issues I had with the game where it froze after a cutscene and wouldn't let me continue. This happened twice for me, and the solution for the first time was to go back to an earlier save file (I recommend you keep several save files, not just one, in case this happens), and the second time was to turn off all shadows in the graphics settings. I was able to complete the game without any other major glitches. Overall, if you like these types of old gaming experiences, I would recommend this one because it's a great dark and classic adventure.
