So good !

A perfect game in many ways, this King's Bounty is a blend of questing, exploration, turn-based strategy and tactical rpg, with colorful warcraft-style graphics and a superb soundtrack. The story is hilariously good and the difficulty is well balanced, yet I recommend being wary of not losing too many units in the later battles. Gold and magic crystals are important resources, so try to invest those on troops and spells you will frequently use. I would entirely avoid comparison with HoMM, King's Bounty is a completely different thing, though you will recognize many of the creatures and races from the same universe.

My most played game of 2014.

I played somewhere around 70 hours of this a while back, and just realized I've never written a review for it. This is a light RPG with turn based tactical battles. You go around the kingdom to different islands and fight groups of monsters on a hex map, with the ultimate goal to vanquish the minor bad guys around the map and the big bad back in your home. Very similar to a HOMM game, you build an army, and the size of your army is limited by your leadership points. Unlike a HOMM game though, you are focused completely on your one leader, instead of having towns and other characters to manage. The turn based tactical battles can be challenging at times and easy at other times. My only complaint really is that by around 50 hours or so into the game, my character was so over powered I could basically stomp anything in the game. I even went back to the main boss, and he wasn't much of a challenge at al.. Part of this was that there's a semi-secret location where you can buy dragons, and once you fill your party with dragons and learn their abilities, you are pretty much invincible. Despite that minor point of being able to OP your character, I really enjoyed my time with this game, and often consider starting a new playthrough. If you're looking for a relaxing but sometimes challenging tactical RPG, this might be just the thing.

"Don't like these OHV turn Based Games"

Good game, despite not being my favourite format, it's a bit of a grind and the narrative will never win any literary awards, but it has that sort of addictive quality that keeps you coming back. Sometimes the members of your army will do hilarious things which appear to be beyond your control, until you discover that you accidentally pressed some key which elicits said behaviour because of the time honoured tradition of never RTFM. The point and click mechanic seems trouble free, the graphics are colourful and bold, and the dialogue is comically awful but the music is great. I suspect the only real problem with this game is the 32Bit implementation that will likely require some kind of simulator to work on a modern PC. I run a dual operating system with Fedora Linux as the primary and Win7 as a standby and always try the games on Linux first, and that provides the ideal environment in the shape of WINE for games like this. The GOG modified installer works almost perfectly with WINE and so does Kings Bounty the Legend. As an aside for all the poor souls who only have Windows; I believe you can acquire a version of WINE for Windows, which may allow you to play this and many other games from the 32Bit era that you may have bought and discarded. WINE is open source software and won't cost you a penny; so you have nothing to lose by trying.

Incredible Game

Barring HOMM there aren't a lot of classic turn-based fantasy games out there that ever intrigued me. I bought this after reading a few reviews and craving a great turn-based fantasy game. It was on special for the week when I bought it and it is an outstanding games. The art, animation, storyline, combat everything is a 10 in my book. I especially all the nods to the fantasy genre from Tolkien to Terry Pratchett. Do yourself a favor and buy this game. My one knock is the spell system. While I enjoy the spells, and the animations are terrific, I wish the spell book was a bit more extensive. My hero is level 16 so I may need to get more toward the end game but it seems like a lot of the spells are fairly useless. In addition GOG needs to release all the expansion packs so I can get those as well :)

incredibly relaxing game

Check this one out if you're looking for a relaxing, not particularly difficult and *very* colourful game. I'm not much of a strategy game person myself, but I keep coming back to King's Bounty whenever I need some off-time. It's more akin to what is now called a Casual Game than anything else. It is pure fun, the combat is not overly complex and each battle is over fast, the grafics and sounds are nice .. basically "nice" is the best term to describe KB .... it's ~nice~ in a great way.
