Great heroes clone

This game is an unapologetic heroes of might and magic clone. In fact it shows in the writing which doesn't appear to take itself too seriously. It does streamline the experience a little to just the adventuring and the magic which still leaves for a really good game. Slight annoyance with the Mac build makes the graphics glitchy. Had to either reboot or shut down all other applications. Otherwise great game, buy it, it's a steal.

GOG version is broken

I played Armored Princess first, then I played The Dark Side... Loved them both, especially the Dark Side. Then I made a mistake of buying The Legend. To begin with, this is the first game in the series and it is inferior in every way imaginable to both of the sequels, especially compared to the Dark Side which has TONS more of everything in terms of content, features, units, quests, items and so on. So, if you played either Armored Princess or the Dark Side, you should skip The Legend. But The Legend's inferiority to the sequels is the least of its problems. The REAL problem is that The Legend still has many bugs - many small ones, but also a couple of HUGE ones: - Some quests are bugged and cannot be completed (at level 14 I already encountered two such quests); - Some NPCs which clearly should be interactive are not interactive; - And then there is the Ice Spirit Lina bug. You rely on your spirits in The Legend as you would rely on your pet dragon in Armored Princess or on Blackie in the Dark Side to prevail in combat, but one of the four of your spirits (Lina) cannot be activated. I uninstalled/reinstalled the game, followed other suggestions I found on the forums where users discuss this exact problem - nothing works for me: When I get to the energy source to recharge Lina, I can click on it, but nothing happens and her dialogue options do not change to where she agrees "to serve" me. Bottom line, even if you never played any of the King's Bounty games, just skip The Legend. It is still half-broken, will never be fixed and it is a waste of time (as you will need at least 150, maybe 200 hours to finish it). Get Armored Princess or Dark Side or both. Oh, and finally The Legend is very unbalanced in terms of the enemies you encounter - a good number of quests you get at level 3 cannot be completed until level 14+ and STILL you will lose 90% of your army while fighting quest enemies. Very disappointed.

Just too flawed to stick with

I tried, I really did, and I spent quite a bit of time with the game, but its flaws and drawbacks immediately become apparent after the first battle or two. On the plus side the graphics are nice, the UI is fine for me, the humor is a nice touch, the story is fairly minimalistic and generic, the game seems to be all about the turn-based battles and quests. The real problem here is the randomnly placed enemies that range from "weak" to "impossible" scattered throughout the map, and the constant need to buy new units after even the "easiest" of battles at times, leaving you with barely enough coin to purchase what you need, ad nauseum. I felt little sense of progression, nor did I understand how or why I was increasing in strength beyond simply purchasing better army units (i.e. bears, pirates etc..,) and there's little-to-no information on what units are stronger than others, enemy info is sorely lacking, the whole game just feels like a mobile game port, or one of those free-to-play games you see advertised online somewhere. It's incredibly generic and lacking a lot of detail where it's needed. I gave it three stars because it has its moments, is endearing in the sense that the world and effort put into it is noticeable at times, and is relatively fun to play around with. But as a true turn-based RPG experience, it's hardly worth my time any longer, although I may try to start over and find a way to really progress and figure things out. The problem is you almost have to do Google searches to figure stuff out, because the game does such a poor job of explaining literally anything to you.

Passable

King's Bounty is sort of interesting on the surface, and while the concept is interesting, the execution is mediocre at best. There are balance issues, UI issues, a tremendous amount of backtracking, and a steep and inconsistent learning curve. That said, the battles can be fun, and some of the writing is pretty funny. On the whole, there's simply not a lot to recommend it.

Excellent game, don't buy it, here!

This game is great, it's a cool melange of real time and turn based fight. It's a refreshing variant of HoM&M. In this game troops are in limited number, it's not just about winning, but winning without losing to much troops. And the game is sadistic enough so some real tough fights are present at the start and have to be avoided until you are stong enough or completly ruin your chance to finish the game. So save often. Why the bad notation then? If you want to play this game, don't buy it here: the version here is 1.7.34.387 and this build has a very nasty bug where in some zone you can't initiate conversation with other character. So you can't do quest and complete the game. So, if you want to play this game, go for it but don't buy it here ...
