Jazz Jackrabbit 2 Collection

I grew up playing this Jazz Jackrabbit 2 in the early 2000s. It was one of my favorite platform games at that time and remains to this game. When I was older, I let my younger brother, who was just old enough to play video games at the time, try it out. He loved it just as much as I did and, unlike me, got farther then I ever had a chance. Both of us still remember it fondly. My younger brother still occasionally references back to it when discussing video games with me, and probably his freinds too. I'm glad I can finally play this game again, and hopefully share it with my now young adult brother in the future - DRM-free.

I lost my original disc for this game many many years ago, so I am thrilled to have not missed GOG giving this away (along with the Secret Files and the bonus Christmas levels I didn't own in the past). If you missed the giveaway, this game is still well worth the price imo!

I know calling Jazz Jackrabbit a "Sonic clone" is a bit of a cop-out but that does hold true, Jazz 2 is a fast-paced platformer reminiscent of Sonic with a few elements from run-and-gun type platformers thanks to its weapons/power-ups changing your attacks. The game is kinetic in all the right ways, you move quick, enemies have enough variety to keep things feeling fresh, music is pretty darn good, and there's plenty of stage variety, even the underwater levels (partially underwater to be more specific) don't feel too drawn out and maintain that high-speed gameplay you'd want. As to running Jazz 2 today? I recommend the source-port Jazz^2 since it adds custom levels and such plus allows playing any of the expansions/campaigns (there's a handful with the version you get here, most notably the holiday level set). Overall? Definitely worth your time if you are a big Sonic fan and want to see how PC-platformers evolved and reached the sort of state they're in today.

I played both this and the first installment when I was young. Jazz 2 took everything from the first title and made it, smoother, slicker, faster, better. This game still packs a punch and will entertain all ya old school platformers out there. The co-op was loads of fun for me and my brothers. Heck, if you have a friend that also likes platformers, buy this game because the multiplayer is awesome and multifaceted with both co-op and battling.
