So short, so sad
The visuals, the direction, and the narrative made me feel like I was playing a martial arts epic. Not a cheesy one either, a really, *really* good one. Unfortunately it was painfully short. It begged for about twice as much material. I didn't find it had any replay value either. Would have been five stars otherwise.

A masterpiece of writing & programming
Everything to please different types of gamers: the Adventure gamer, the RPG gamer, and the Action gamer. Providing, in the 2020s, that you can still appreciate a game from an older generation, that you can endure a UI stretched in wide-screen (only the UI, not the graphics), and that you are ready to modify yourself the ".ini" file to beautify the graphics (easy steps to follow, plenty of explanation on how to do it in the forums). It is worth the effort a hundred times!

The best BioWare title (IMO)
Whenever I play a BioWare game, I always have to ask, "Is this going to be as good as Jade Empire?" The answer I get is always, "No." Why? Because Jade Empire is a masterpiece. The combat (although outdated by modern standards) was fluid, intuitive, and insanely fun! Making the combat a two-button system really showed the hallmark of "simpler is better." The story was amazing, the cast of characters was unforgettable (and honestly, who can forget the Black Whirlwind?), and the setting picturesque. While the combat can get a little repetitive, especially late-game, the addition of new styles and combos really allows you to try and experiment. There's also the multiple endings, the Galaxian-style mini-game, and the "Open Palm/Closed Fist" moral system. There's honestly not enough I can say to enshrine how much I enjoyed this game. Just pick it up, give it a try, and before you know it, you'll be on your second playthrough.

Alright, I'm calling it.
I don't doubt this game was great when I originally wanted it but didn't have an Xbox, but it's just boring me. I actually was having a good time for quite a while, but then all at once the repetition and clunkiness of it all just hit me and I've been slogging through the last few hours. I'm at the end of chapter 3 and I just don't care enough to finish. The setting is nice, but the story and voice acting are just so phoned in that it hasn't created one memorable moment yet.

A very unique experience (if it works)
I never experienced any bugs with this game. I know a lot of people had issues, bugs, even game-breaking bugs, or the game would simply not start for them. I think the GoG version is the best version of the game, but be warned. When it does work though it's an amazing action game, the martial arts aspect is surprisingly deep and balanced with many different fights challenging your mastery in various ways. The choice of which martial arts styles to focus on feels very meaningful and deeply impacts how the gameplay feels. This makes the game surprisingly replayable. The story is hard to surpass. This action game has a better story than most "story-rich" games published in the last decade. The downsides of the game (bringing it down from a hypothetical 7 stars to a mere 5 stars) in my eyes are: The end game railroads you a bit which is an unwelcome change after the very free, hub-based early and mid-game that offers a lot of choice. I know a lot of games do this, but I felt the balance was a bit off in JE, perhaps the game could have used one last hub somehow combining the areas of the 5th and 6th chapters. The new game + feature (Jade Master) is generally fun, but especially the bossfights involve a lot of repeated moves that are hard on the fingers. Still overall an amazing game and well worth at least one play-through!
