Oh, the memories...

I actually played it some five years ago, when I bought it from a Billa in Austria, as it was only 16 EUR, which seemed almost dirt cheap (a few weeks later I realised that it was a bit of a mistake, as then game was in German only and I knew no German whatsoever). Despite that hurdle in my gaming experience, I was captivated by the world in the game... The atmosphere is memorable (though I wouldn't be able to recall everything there was, it had a certain je ne sais quois) and at that moment the fighting system attracted me quite a lot, with its slight resemblance to WoW. Definitely going to buy it again.

Utter disappointment

I played through this game a hundred times and was very happy to find it on GOG only to find out that the game is utter garbage in this version. Enemies can stunlock you alone, dodging avails nothing as in this version enemies turn with you while dodging (but ofc your character does not under the same circumstances...), blocking is simply useless because your dumb character does not do it, however even with the fastest styles fully upgraded your enemies can block at any given time. WTH? Then of course, after you figured out how to trick the system, you go through almost any confrontation with one hand down your pants, until you meet deamons. For some reason some total crackpot thought: Yeah, you know what? In this version we'll make them live solely on cocain and delete their weaknesses. So deamons still turn with you and are henceforth lightning fast and their strikes almost unavoidable. Their greatest weakness was being slow. Now you have a towering elephant deamon, with longer reach than yours, striking just as fast as the second fastest martial style, turning with your dodges, unable to being interrupted and all that on top of a bunch of other enemies. Good bloody job of ruining a game entirely. I am not sure if this is an issue with the GOG version, or with the latest version in general, but it's not like I could check if my version does not have the issue as it is broken. But the problems are with the version you can buy here at this point you are paying scraps for a bloody broken game.

Doesnt Work for me...

I bought this with nostalgia on the mind, I wanted to relive the experience I had when i first played this game long ago. Now the game is good, it works. But not for me sadly... I bought this on GOG thinking I wouldnt have to worry about bugs and glitches, that I will be able to play without having to go to some sketchy third party website to get it to function. But that wasnt what happened sadly. Honestly the only thing more frustrating than this game not working, is the fact that I am the only one with a GOG copy that wont work while everyone is praising how GOG's Jade Empire is working like a dream. I tried so hard to get this to work for me, having to redo the Bandit Raid over and over and over, just to get to the level up screen in hopes that I get to finally progress the game. If someone know's my issue and know's how to fix it, so I may get back into this game please tell me. I REALLY want to play but all the guides dont work for me...

Jade empire

The setting is rather cool, a ancient chinese empire inspired by martial arts films. There are only 2 small villages and the imperial city as main locations in the game. The grand finale takes place in a ancient crypt. Rather short. The combat is real time and has next to no tactical options beside blocking and power attacks. Most fights can be solved by randomly smashing the attack buttons. The story telling is biowarian. 5 main story missions you can choose from freely and then being thrown into the grande finale. The game misses the tactical battles of baldurs gate, the exploration, the content, the catfighting between team members, the story is boring and uninteresting. Jade empire and Knights of the old republic were the begin of the biowarian decline for me. No good rpgs anymore but light action games for the console market to maximize profit and market share. Nethertheless JE is a quite fun game.

A solid RPG that stands the test of time

In an era where games presented little to nothing in the way of morality, Jade Empire stands out as having a fantastic morality scale where you can be less than "good" while still being the "good guy". The leveling is fantastic, allowing you to customize your character's abilities as you increase in power, tailoring to your playstyle. If you haven't already, BUY THIS GAME. Bonus: Surprise Nathan Fillion.
