Inherit the Earth

...but a lot of convoluted mazes, wandering and fetching items. Thankfully, these drawbacks are easily tackled by folloing guides online. The story revolves around "morphs" or anthropomorphic animals in a world where humans have disappeared, leaving these sentient talking animals forming a medieval society. The game's protagonists are morphs that were given a quest of utmost importance in order to save the day and save themselves at it. The game features nice 2D art in a gamplay that consists of point-and-click item collection, use and combination, as well as picking the right dialogue options. There are some points in the story where you can lose the game, so saving game is generally recommended. The characters are funny and original, and the voiceover is professionally done. The universe, however, feels unfinished, though there is a lot of space to expand. The game was originally planned to have sequels but that never materialized, even despite the renewed interest in it in the last decade. The only challenges I had are a few puzzles, e.g. following a certain path on the ground to get to the goal, dungeon-like mazes, and (the worst) wandering in isometric corridors that takes too much time for my taste. Thankfully, I saved my game before and after going through them, so they did not break the game for me. 4/5 Great story, universe, art, design Not so great puzzles and confusing mazes

A game I played way back in the day, Inherit the Earth was a flawed classic to me, and always will be. Whispering tales of what might have been. For those who enjoy the game, the storyline has been continued in the form of a webcomic that's been going for eight years now. A simple Google search will find it. Interestingly enough, a Kickstarter was begun, and ultimately failed, to raise enough money to make a true sequel to this game. That was ultimately one of the reasons that this game came to GOG--to help fund the next game in the series. Want to see that happen? Get this game!

One of the cutest games from my childhood. A bit tedious at times but I love it just the same. I vividly remember game play as I do some of my favorite books. My original copy for whatever reason does not work so glad to see it reborn here on GOG!

I have many found memories playing this game when I was younger. I definitely recommended it to anyone that liked Monkeys Island style games.

A game where animals rule the world, or so it seems. You play a protagonist who is a fox named Biff who is charged(against his will) to find a certain artifact which can mean the difference between peace and war and controls the weather for farming and crops. This game is not for the people looking only for dark gloomy tales of blood and gore, though it does take place in a post-human era where we humans mysteriously left long ago for some reason or other. This is not a 'cutzie tale of bambie and thumper as one might expect, nor is it a dark and gritty tale if you want that, watch Watership Down, you won't get it here, rather, this is a tale of some serious nature without the gloom and doom though the plot spells this if you don't succeed. You are charged with two followers, one from the Elk Tribe of the forest the other from the Boar tribe who is the force of arms, I suppose for the realm. Though their is quite a lot of lighthearted humor(and good thing too) it is not a "child's" game, per se, though I suppose someone above the age of 10 might comprehend the outlining story pretty well. If you like games such as King's Quest, Legend of Kyrandia, or campfire folktales, you will LOVE this! It is like that and with great dialogue and excellent voice actors who portray the parts in the approprieat animal they are supposed to be, Fox, being a sort of tactful diplomat but very choosy and cautios in his words, Boars being blunt and somewhat dour and less of this, and the Elk being wise forest lords much as a seasoned ranger or paladin might sound. Ferrets being fast talking but curious and so forth. the animation is equally appropriate to the animal in question, fox and Elk and Rams hind legs moving foreward in the lower part and walk appropriate to this, not looking like men in silly ridiculous costumes like so many cartoons and other games do(including Ultima VII-IX great games, but sadly in this case, this is so) but in this games animals animate as animals do(of a given tribe that is). I highly recommend this game for a play through, great fun, great off beat dialogue very intriguing plot and some very challenging puzzles-the key of getting stuck actually, and quests! (mostly errands at first) However, all of this together will get you I a good mood fast!
