Inherit the Earth

Inherit The Earth is a game that I initially wasn't certain about what I'd get from it. The game is your typical point-and-click adventure game where you play as Rif of the Fox Time and get accused of stealing the Orb of Storms which foretells the weather and is something just about every tribe bases its livelihood on. For important things such as crops and when to save up for winter, to the boars getting their mud baths prepared. For a more fun playthrough here is Part 1 of my stream of this game: https://youtu.be/KOr-FX_APoI There are so many great and funny scenes in this game that I still remember, despite it being well over a year since I played it with moments like Rif looking at a gate and proclaiming "Wow, look at the size of those knockers!" to your two companions assisting you in confusing the doorkeeper with an old Abbot and Costello routine we've seen many times, but never known where it originally came from. There are numerous lewd moments which I later learnt was perhaps due to the fact this game was cut and forced to be a kids game when the initial concept was supposed to be for a more mature audience (Rif walking in on a showering female wolf and the feline fortune teller constantly suggesting that Rif lie down and take it easy) but those are still very harmless and extremely hilarious. another negative as that I'm afraid it ends on a cliff-hanger and multiple times the creators have attempted to Kickstarter to bring it back. Creating a sequel with the vision that they have, but currently, they are situated on Patreon which you can find here: https://www.patreon.com/wyrmkeep where they are currently creating the world in webcomic form due to two failed Kickstarter attempts. For now, I'd still say it's well worth getting and I hope the gameplay of it found on YouTube can help you reach that decision.

This is a great little game with a cute story. You play as animals that have survived the human extinction. The story is fun and well paced and the animation is well done. It also set out to be different than single screen adventure games of the 90s with scrolling backgrounds in some of the areas. The flaws do not kill the game but they are annoying. I hope you like backtracking through labyrinths I hope you like your companions getting in the way of items because their AI is dumb I hope you like empty environments with no indication of what buildings or doors lead to These things do not kill the enjoyment but just beware. Also to note, this is one of the few GoG games that will not run full screen for me on Windows 10. It runs in a small window and I had to adjust my scaling options. I have not had this issue with any other game. Overall I recommend this game as it is fun.

A wonderful introduction to the world of point-and-click adventure games, Inherit The Earth is easy to understand, has more than enough entertaining (and often quite humorous) dialogue, and will run on even the simplest of hardware. The game's Robin Hood-esque setting is charming, and the main character fits it well. The backstory for the world is an interesting concept that's well utilized within the main story, and the characters all have well-developed personalities. The game makes the most of its restrictive graphics, using character portraits in dialogue; speaking of which, the dialogue itself is very well written and well performed. Overall, Inherit the Earth is a good choice for those wishing to get into the point-and-click adventure genre.

Biased childhood review, but honestly this is a great game. Fully understand where people say vast empty wasted spaces. The story is definitely a strong point, where mankind brought all other animals to their level of intelligence, but then for some unknown reason they left the planet. Now all species being able to think and speak for themselves try to make sense of the world around them, and the artifacts left behind by humans - reminiscent to how ancient human civilizations were so advanced to the eyes of someone in the 14th-15th centuries. Despite the story being a strong point, it is a bit drawn out and spaced out. Nothing today's day-and-age players of any open world game isn't used to (Assassin's Creed I'm looking at you and the billions of uninteresting side-stories). It ran on my 486SX at 25Mhz with only 8MB of RAM, on good old DOS - 3D graphics cards weren't even thought of at the time... It was only 7 floppy disks (only had voices at the fair while playing chess) It needs a remake, it would be awesome with today's technologies, specially if it was made as an open world, rather than isometric maps. Maybe one day some fan base will start a project - can always be hopeful :D

In spite of the cut content, Inherit the Earth is one of those memorable and unique point-and-click adventure games. I first played it as a child and replayed it a few times since. The art style and characters are gorgeous. As an artist, I remember absolutely loving the concept art that is show at the ending credits. The world's lore is rich and possibly more interesting than the main story. It makes you wish there were more side quests and content to explore. Some of the puzzles are difficult when you encounter them for the first time. I would recommend this to anyone who likes anthromorphic animals and good old point-and-click adventure games. It is a shame that they never got to make a sequel. This world would be perfect for an MMO where you could design your own character and explore.
