(One of the) Best Movie Adaptation(s)

... what is he even talking about - this isn't following any movie! Right, but if as a child I ever wondered how a movie would be turned into a game - this would be it. While most people consider Infernal Machine the objectively better game, and I can see why, Emperor's Tomb has a lot more focus on a cinematic adventurous feel, packed with action - alongside some smaller puzzles. Controls were never the best, making some passages needlessly dangerous for the wrong reason. Coupled with the autosave only after a level makes this understandably frustrating. The levels are normally never too long (with one exception) and the game (again, with one exception) also doesn't pull cheap shots that often. So I suppose, depending on how you approach it, the game can vary from difficult to challenging most of the time. Presentation was great back then, now of course it has aged a lot. But it is still nice to look and listen to if you consider it has been almost 20 years by now. Technically, widescreen seems to be problematic. If you google around you can look into that and other stuff like controller support, as always. I would also recommend to just look up a bit of gameplay to get a feel for the gameplay - and if it is something you'd enjoy. So, if more action-oriented, or just more Indy, sounds good to you - give it a try! At best, you will like it a lot. At worst, well... you've experienced the last Indiana Jones game worth talking about...?

Индиана Джонс и магическое приключение.

Сказать, что игр про Индиану Джонса много - нельзя. Все они разные: от квестов до экшн-приключений. Данная игра относится к последним и рассказывает нам, что приключилось с Инди до событий "Храма Судьбы". Сюжет здесь простой, да и проявляет себя лишь в начале и ближе к концу игры. Прямо как и фильмах есть вводное приключение, не относящееся к основной истории - здесь это похождения по храмам Цейлона - обучение всем основным механикам. Геймплей прост: основу составляют драки, простой платформинг и решение простецких головоломок. И драки здесь просто замечательные: вам не захочется переключаться на кривовато реализованный огнестрел - все враги будут побеждены градом ударов кулаками киношного археолога. Можно использовать и предметы, которые валяются на уровнях (лопаты, стулья). Попрыгать по различным платформам, уступам, веревкам придется, но эти эпизоды не такие уж сложные - Индиана не Лара и не Дрейк, чтобы показывать чудеса скалолазания. Загадки тоже не доставляют никаких проблем, взамен некоторые интересно оформлены (например эпизод с крокодилом). Многие пишут про неудобное управление. Я не увидел в нем ничего подобного, кроме скорости выбора предмета из инвентаря и переката на Q . И то, в нужных местах при нажатии кнопки действия Джонс вынимает нужный предмет сам (например кнут, если подойти к уступу, где можно перелететь), а в драках ничего кроме фляги и огнестрела не понадобится, да и почти всегда даётся возможность отойти от противника на достаточное расстояние. Перекат можно поставить на другую удобную кнопку. Смущает перебор с фантастическими элементами. Спойлерить не буду, но к концу игры Инди попадет в одно необычное место, а на протяжении всего приключения будет сражаться с необычными противниками. В итоге получаем простенькую, но очень приятную игру. Я в неё играл даже с чуть большим удовольствием, чем в Tomb Raider-ы, которые выходили в нулевые.

Indy wasted on a weak Tomb Raider clone

Poor Indy. You didn't deserve such a mediocre game! There was so much potential in this game, but some terrible choices made the game hard to enjoy. - no free saving! Not even checkpoints. If you die, you'll have to play through the entire level again. And yes, that will happen, since the hard enemies (even one-hit=kill ones) come at the end of the level. - poor controls. Awkward console controls that have been ported badly to the PC. Indy feels like a geriatric version of Lara. - what the hell happened to Indy's stamina? Whenever he takes more than two steps, he starts wheezing as if he had just run a marathon. That is a minor annoyance, but it is totally out of character. Now the good: it's Indy and you get to explore mysteries and fight bad guys with him. And bad controls... with better controls and the option to save the game, this game could have been great. But as it is, it just stands as an example that even a big name and a good concept can be ruined by game-design sins.

A great action-adventure

I really love this game. I bought it back then and played it to the end despite some obviously flaws it has; first and foremost its really frustrating that there are too few save points so that you have to play a level over and over again; also the movement and camera controls are a bit clunky and the swimming parts are especially bad to control. Despite those flaws the game is just amazing: it is probably the only Indiana Jones video game that really has the look and feel of a true Indiana Jones movie. The level design is great, the fighting is in its comicesque exaggerations fun to watch every round a new and the music, sound and voice acting is superb; even the graphics have quite firmyl stood the test of time. Give it a try if you havent checked it out yet (if you have, you will obviously have already bought it anew): A really well done action-adventure.

Not really good, not really Indy

Having loved anything Indiana Jones related, I was looking forward to playing this game. Who wouldn't want to watch an "unaired" Indiana Jones adventure, let alone experience it first hand. But sadly, Emperor's Tomb feels more like the 1st attempt of a fledgeling studio at a 3D game. Emperor's Tomb feels so basic & on a budget, you might as well be playing Tomb Raider 1. Problem is, that game was released 6 years prior to this one, yet nothing much changed. Controls are so bad, they'd often get you killed, level design is repetitious and leaves no room for exploration, progression is linear - & if you stray from the path designated for you, the difficulty will immediately rise, & the camera is so bad, it rarely shows you what you want to look at. Combat is easy enough but repetitive, partly due to you being forced to fight hand to hand, & partly due to the enemies just standing there, waiting for you to attack them. After a while I felt like I was playing Mortal Kombat with an Indy skin. Granted, you can use a lot of things as weapons to attack the enemy, but they're as useless as can be. Hacking away at a baddie using a machete, I might as well have tickled him with a feather. Granted, you can use guns, but the aiming takes its cues from Trespasser. Meaning you flail your arm around while the camera shows you everything but the bad guy, while he keeps moving around waiting for you to pull the trigger. More often than not the bad guy would get bored & finally attack me before I landed a single shot. It doesn't help that the enemies of each section seem to only have two skins to choose from. In fact, entering one area I encountered three bad guys, all of which looked exactly the same. And the look of the levels is just as uninspired - every level you play seems just like the previous one, & the lack of checkpoints means you'll get to experience them over & over again. They're so basic, I felt like I wasn't playing an Indy game, but rather a game with Indy in it.
