Immortal Redneck is an FPS set in Egypt with rogue-lite elements. The game mixes old-school first-person shooter action with a rogue-lite mechanics. Frantic gameplay, twitch controls and an arcade-style feel meet randomly generated dungeons, a complete skill tree, permanent death and 9 classes with different traits.
The game revolves around a redneck tourist who wakes up mummified in ancient Egypt after an accident. Why is he here? How did he survive the accident? And why the hell is he mummified?!
The answer lies within the three danger-filled pyramids of Giza, all protected by an army of monsters and huge bosses. Obviously, your mission is to get inside the pyramids, kill all the enemies and discover what's going on!

Nine playable classes: all with different skill sets. Players can switch classes between each play through, selecting the one most suitable for their current run

Huge bosses: two in each pyramid with unique gameplay
Merchant: Buy equipment and supplies that will be maintained between different games, even when you die

Got it during a giveaway - so glad that happened. It's highly experimental, an interesting mix of genres: rogue-like, boomer FPS, RPG-inspired settings and powers, etc. Full disclosure, I do not like traditional shooters. Despite that, I really enjoyed it - maybe that means something. For what's it's worth, this game was one big pleasant surprise.
At first glance the game seems fun - fast paced, nice looking shooter. Then comes the realization that the beginning of the game is actually all there is. True, the enemies are getting harder to kill but it all boils down to repeating the same rooms in a more or less random order and grinding for money to buy skills upgrades. And that's it. Fun for an hour. Then gets boring.
It's the modern "replacement" for game design - make it random and call it rogue-lite.
I needed about 50 hours to complete the game. I'm not a pro, and in the beginning my plan was to play it as far as I can, have a good time, and then move on. And I died over and over, wondering how anybody can beat the first pyramid, not to mention the next two.
But slow and steady I bought more and more skills, starting with the gold pickup optimization, moving on to health and defence and so on. When I beat my first pyramid after about 30 hours or so, I was so proud. Should I stop? No, I wanted to keep going. And in another 20 hours I had maxed out my skill tree, I flew through the levels, nothing could stop me, and I made it and beat the final boss without sweating.
If I can do it as an average player, then you can too!
As an honourable mention I want to praise the movement and the gun play. It's both top notch, it feels just perfect.
So if you don't mind dying over and over, and keep repeating the same rooms, with slightly different enemies all the time, you will have a blast!
But if you never liked Rogue Likes or Rogue Lites, stay away. This game won't convince you otherwise.

TL;DR: The game is not incredibly unique and certainly has its issues, most notably the RNG, but when it works, it works; I certainly enjoyed my time with it.
Immortal Redneck is a rogue-like arena shooter in the vein of Ziggurat. The aim is to get to the tops of several randomly generated pyramids, filled with various traps and enemies, by dashing, jumping and most importantly shooting your way through. When you inevitably die in this pursuit, you respawn outside, where you are given the chance to spend your accumulated gold on upgrades, new divine favours (classes), or boosts for your next go-around.
The good:
+ Classes are simple and clear, and generally offer a unique enough spin on the same run-and-gun gameplay.
+Environments and visuals are nice to look at.
+The game has a nice variety of guns, ranging from basic pistols and shotguns to ancient Egyptian laser guns.
The bad:
- Most classes have decent or at least fun active abilities, but one or two -looking at you, Ammit- feel incredibly lacklustre.
- Despite their variety none of the guns feel especially powerful, be it through lacking stats or lacking sound design.
- You can come across random upgrades in the pyramids, which can be either fun (e.g.: chance to turn enemies into chickens) or incredibly frustrating (e.g.: you can't swap weapons until you completely run out of ammo), as a bad effect can completely derail your run.
When the game allows you to play it, and you're zipping around the room, dodging and shooting enemies left and right, it's very fun. But when you're stuck with bad-to-mediocre weapons or some negative effect has you hobbled, it becomes an exercise in frustration. I did enjoy the majority of the game, but the game did not always make it easy.
