Immortal Redneck is an FPS set in Egypt with rogue-lite elements. The game mixes old-school first-person shooter action with a rogue-lite mechanics. Frantic gameplay, twitch controls and an arcade-style feel meet randomly generated dungeons, a complete skill tree, permanent death and 9 classes with different traits.
The game revolves around a redneck tourist who wakes up mummified in ancient Egypt after an accident. Why is he here? How did he survive the accident? And why the hell is he mummified?!
The answer lies within the three danger-filled pyramids of Giza, all protected by an army of monsters and huge bosses. Obviously, your mission is to get inside the pyramids, kill all the enemies and discover what's going on!

This game is fun and hard. Everytime you die you start all over. Sometime it is a pain in the ass. However every time you get futher and die you want to go back and play
I was a bit sketch on this game as roguelites/likes tend to become very repetitive, but as GOG is currently giving it away for free I decided to give it a go. Unlike another review I did not find the game impossible after 10 hours, rather, I beat the first pyramid on my second run. That's what makes shooter roguelites enjoyable. You don't need to die 100 times to level up your character, you just need to play skillfully.
There is some luck involved, but to say skill is the lesser is wrong. I had 3 of my weapons taken by RNG which gave my current weapon infinite ammo, but that only lasts until another weapon drops. Obviously in my first encounter a flare gun drops, so I'm screwed. Then my assault rifle was swapped with a bow. By sheer chance I got my very first rocket launcher in the last room before the final boss. The real problem though? I had a great run and kept picking up scrolls like a greedy cow which resulted in barely clearing it. Worth noting it'd be hard to clear it in 30 minutes unless you had leveled up a ton and were zooming through. I think my second run was a little over an hour.
I'd still give this a 3 though, disregarding it currently being free. The gameplay is solid but after only 2 runs I'm unsure if I want to continue on to the second pyramid as it does get rather monotonous. Such is the nature of a roguelite built on sheer gameplay and no story. The humor isn't exactly on-point either, I'm afraid.
This game is great fun. Colors are nice and opponents are interesting. Skill tree gives you some help to progress in game. You might find it a bit too hard at first but after a couple of runs and getting used to scrolls, weapons etc. it begins to be fun.
Some scrolls are cursed and give you negative effects, some are positive and give you some advance. They give a nice touch to the game. There is very few cursed scrolls that actually ruin a run, at least after a while. You just have to learn play with them.
There is only a couple of weapons that I find quite useless but in all they are great and funny. I disagree with some reviews that weapons have too few bullets. You just can't run and shoot around. Instead you have to do some plans when to shoot opponent and in which order.
Level design is a bit too repetitive as there isn't so many different rooms in this game. Just a couple of different rooms put in different order.
No story, goal or character building, just go from room to room, kill everything and collect stuff until you die. And you will die again and again and again, it's hard at the beginning. After every turn you increase your stats and make the next run a little easier. And quite oldschool, you learn how to beat each room, its enemies and how they behave. Doesn't feel repetitive to me, but like training.
The layout of the pryramids is generated, a puzzle made of a set of rooms. Also you can collect scrolls that alter gameplay, including annoying bad ones.
Also nice design, crossover of egyptian art & art noveau and future disco in the later pyramids.
