Icewind Dale 2 Complete

While the first IWD may not have had the most intricate story ever written, it was epic enough to keep me interested and involved. I can't say the same for IWD2. The Narrator of the movie sequences was talking about IWD1 while you were playing IWD2, and the way they related made either no sense, or was so boring that I did not care. This does not take away from the fact that the combat was excellent, and it is an enjoyable dungeon crawl, just for the gameplay. Sadly, IWD2 had the dubious honor of being the only IE game that I ever sold off. Now that I can have it back without it taking up ANY space in my house, I think I will get it again.. :-)

Icewind Dale 2 is not as good as its predecessor and pales in comparison to the Baldur's Gate games or Planescape: Torment. It is a long linear slog that revisits several locations from the first game and makes you fight your way through some sections multiple times. The combat is cheap and nasty, like a pen & paper RPG run by a sociopath who is trying to annihilate his friends. The story is not good enough to warrant the time and effort involved in getting through it. On the plus side, it runs flawlessly on Linux using WINE.

icewind dale 1 and 2 are very amazing games and have great graphics and storyline and its replay value is great because i love to try out new parties and i still even appreciate it in 2010 when there are alot more advanced games out

I found that BG2 had a lot more focus in its gameplay, and it was just an overall more interesting game. LD2 especially has such a limited plot focus, and the areas you visit are very standard (like the first ID). There are a lot of snowy areas and tombs. Needless to say I would wait to see if they can get BG2 up on here before picking up this game. Choose the better one first. At the very least if you haven't played BG1 you should do that one first. They aren't related plotwise, but BG1 has a much more compelling storyline.

As much as I would love to have delved into a proper third-edition D&D game, I can't actually play this game at all. It either loads in an odd corner of the screen when I set it into fullscreen, or the windowed version is so tiny that it's painful to read-- and if I try to shift my window, it makes the mouse stop working. Sadly I feel like I wasted my money and cannot recommend this to anyone.
