More frustraiting than fun at this point

I'm 16 hrs in the game now and all the little annoyances are becoming a bit too grating. Really thinking about uninstalling, which is sad cause there were plently of moments where I had fun and that's what makes me want to continue. A bunch of the enemeis and bosses really need to be rebalanced and the abilites and upgrades feel like they do nothing Needed to buy a compass doesn't add anything to gameplay, but okay fine. However needed to have it equiped and only having one slot for badges makes no sense as it just locks you into using it over other badges So much of the game feels like it was designed to waste your time and test your patience rather than your skill. I want to explore but I feel like everytime I do, I run into something that comletely sucks the fun out of it. This game could be excellent, but as of right now it has too many flaws that hinder the experience

Took the Wrong Lessons

Team Cherry seem to have heard complaints about Hollow Knight not being hard enough and decided to do a bit of trolling in revenge. The game is too hard. Where "hard" here entails tedious runbacks and/or platforming challenges often ending in boss fights. A couple is alright. But half of the end game is just these frustrating bouts of having your resources and patience whittled down by overly long intervals of precise jumping and instant death before you can even set foot in the boss room. There are good bits too. But the last two play sessions have been punctuated by bouts of extreme annoyance. To the point where I'm not even looking forward to playing again. Which is a shame because the good bits are quite good. The bosses are mostly excellent. The music is gorgeous. The environments are haunting, etc. etc. etc. But I'm kinda at my wit's end on runbacks and pitfalls and maggot water and saw blades. I want to love this like I loved Hollow Knight. But I cannot. They seem to have gone out of their way to make the game as annoying as possible. So that's how I feel about it, annoyed. It's an annoying game. Not really what I'm trying to get out of gaming experiences.

Giving up and hoping for patches

I managed to beat the Hollow Knight true ending and really enjoyed my time with that game. Up to about 8 hours into Silksong, I was happy enough; it was noticeably harder but still enjoyable, and the early boss fights felt like dances again. But things turned very quickly, at about 10 hours now and I don't see myself being able to beat this game, so I'm going to cut my losses early. I still have no meaningful upgrades and even normal enemies are best avoided since beating them takes a minute and gives nothing of value. Never mind the bosses, which can kill you in an instant because apparently iframes were nerfed to the ground and you also take two points of damage just by standing a little too close to a staggered enemy. I might be able to get out of Act 1 if I spend all of my free time grinding, but honestly I can only see it getting worse from there. It feels like they were testing a NG+ "enemies do double damage and have double health" mode and left it enabled by default by accident. If you managed to beat the highest challenges in Hollow Knight hitless, this is the game for you, otherwise steer clear. What remains is a deep feeling of sadness because I was really hoping this would be my game of the year.

Backtracking gallore

The game is filled with terrible design choices, it feels untested and unfair it the worst possbile way. The life system is mathematically off. the game lacks checkpoints instead your going to wander the same long way every time you fail. the currency system also serves no purpose other than waste your time. Overall the devs should have involved player feedback and not go silent for six years.

Unfair and annoying

Silksong is a difficult game. That's not a bad thing. I’ve played Hollow Knight (Team Cherry’s previous game) and completed the White Palace—the final phase of that game. It was tough, but above all, it was fun. Silksong doesn’t have those moments. It’s a difficult game, the enemies move in annoying ways, and some areas are poorly designed. Try getting through Hunter’s March. And then there’s the platforming in this game—the red flowers that don’t work properly. As a player, you can spend ten minutes trying to overcome a single obstacle. Silksong doesn’t respect your time. In summary, after 15 hours of playing, the main emotion I feel is frustration.
