don't bother

I loved Torchlight I & II, and I had high hopes for Runic games, but they've failed me. They seem to have gone for style over substance with Hob. They forgot that games are supposed to be *fun*. Instead, the exploration is tedious with not much to discover, since the scenary is same-o, same-o everywhere. The platforming is tedious, as you do little but repeatedly go over the same areas trying to figure out where you're supposed to go and what you're supposed to do. And where's the freaking map???

Pleasant surprise.

I had never heard of this game before and I was pleasantly surprised. Spectacular art direction and fluid gameplay makes this an overall delight to play. Story has a nostalgic simplicity to it and is more about adventure and discovery than about boss fights. Level design is beautiful but a bit repetetive and thus gets a bit disorienting in some areas. Upgrading your sword, cloak and abilities is a nice touch. 10/10, would recommend and would love to get more games like this.

... But the camera

I love this game. The art style is great. The game play is fun. It feels like a Legend of Zelda kind of game, which I think we need more of. The only reason I'm not giving this a 5/5 is the one element of this game that fails completely. The camera. Lack of camera controls is real drag on this game. Ir's really the onyl bad point, and it doesn't kill the game, but it's the flaw that stands out the most on an otherwise perfect game.

A wonderful adventure

Hob does a great job of combining action, exploration and platforming. The world and art is very endearing, and it never gets old activating some mechanism only to see an entire section of world shoot out of the ground in front of you. Enemies each have their "thing" they do, providing dynamic combat and opportunities for you to use all of your abilities. My only real criticism is that I wish it was a little longer. Took me about 13 hours to complete without using a walkthrough, and I believe I got nearly all of the "secrets."

About perfect

One of my favourite games of all time. So sad for Runic. We need more games like ths. Tight, fun, and engaging. x
