These levels are tiny and sparse. What happened to the signature sound? The density? The mind boggling multitude of animations and actions? For the money get Hidden Folks and let this one slide. So much more game there. Burned through this in a few hours. Never did find everything in HF and played for days... Feels a little cash grabby tbh like they licensed it out and left town after the initial success.
Hi,
the game does perfectly the job: really entertaining, without any stress, a must-have to relax after a long day of labor. The assistance system is really nice and adds to the gameplay.
However, two disappointing things:
- it should have deserved far more included maps: they are excellent with a progression for each era. Relying only on them makes the game very short
- to access to the online community maps, Gog Galaxy is mandatory. As I don't want to install it, there is no way to continue playing with new maps
By the way, there are DLCs but I didn't bought them, therefore I can't say whether they are good of not.
‘Hidden Through Time’ is a fun, breezy hidden object puzzle game. Although the base game is not long (it only took me about 3.5 to 4 hours to complete), its longevity is extended by its 5 DLCs. While I didn’t get any of them, I did get several hours of additional playtime from the custom maps created and shared online by other players. Some custom maps were created using assets from the DLCs, so you’d get a taste of what the DLCs offer.
The base game is divided into 4 historical period themes: Stone Age, Egypt, Middle Ages, and Western. (I know, “Egypt” and “Western” aren’t periods, but tell that to the developers.) These themes only differ in aesthetics, but the changes in scenery were welcomed. Unfortunately there is only one background track throughout the entire base game regardless of the period you are in. It would have been great to have different background music for each one.
‘Hidden Through Time’ excels in its simplicity in gameplay and execution. Even many of the custom maps I played were well done, with several seemingly of professional level of design. Because of that, this game is perfect for days when you just want something simple to play or when you want to take a break from the more complex titles in your game library. ‘Hidden Through Time’ is definitely worth your…time, especially when it goes on sale.
It's a nicely done simple game, especially if you need to kill several minutes while waiting. The only downside is that the main game is pretty short, and after a couple of hours, you're done (26 maps).
Then you can reset the maps and play again, or buy one of several DLCs (usually 10 new maps per DLC). There is also an option to play online maps, but since I couldn't connect online with the game, I wasn't able to check that.
Also, you can create your own maps, which is a great feature and potentially balances the lack of maps from the main game!
