Does not work on large wide screen: gives black window and sound only (Windows 10). Fixed with setting screen resolution to 1014x768 before launching the game. Nice game and especially soundtracks! Maybe it's a little irrational to play a strategy game for the writing, but hey. Every couple of years I find myself drawn back into the campaigns of order mages and genies, knights and knaves, and, most of all, the struggles of the pragmatic Half-Dead necromancer. HOMM IV pairs nice, homogenous visuals with decent strategic gameplay and an impressive magic/ability system for the heroes. Diverse leveling opportunities for player characters together with witty, often humorous story-telling, make for a charming diversion that has cost me far too much time over the years. Highly recommended for patient players looking for engaging stories with their turn-based confrontations, but probably too little for strategy purists.

The first time I played HOMM4 was about 20 years ago, and I am still listening to its music and play it time to time, it is so enjoyable when playing it and explore the magic world. I want to say we need a remaster version of this game to remake city bulding and creature design, hope in future there will be a 2.5D total new next gen HOMM . 英雄无敌4YYDS

You could safely say that im a heroes 3 fanatic, and it was almost impossible for to accept the major changes they did to the game. It seems to me that the warm atmosphere of heroes 3 is completely gone. But they have done changes that are really exiting, it is almost worth playing just because of the new experience system, another change that led me completely unaware was that the hero can in fact die during a battle, if your hero is a mage with low hp, you might die battle really fast. Try the game, give it some hours, but do not expect it to be in the same style as heroes 1,2, and 3.

Heroes of Might & Magic 4 is a flawed but underrated turn-based strategy game. Like the other games in the series, you recruit armies of fantasy creatures and fight tactical, chess-like battles. Heroes 4 was rushed, which means it's not as polished as the rest of the series. The AI is probably the most notable deficiency. It does alright, but you'll undoubtedly see it do some boneheaded things. Some minor but obvious quality-of-life improvements are missing. There are no major problems, but it's enough to comment on. A lot of major gameplay changes were made from the earlier games. Heroes 4 has the most RPG elements in the series, to the point where you can forgo recruiting monsters and instead wander around the map with a party of adventurers. This is so much fun that it makes up for some of the changes that I didn't like, such as getting rid of unique bonuses for each hero. Instead of starting with cool special abilities, you make your hero unique over time. It's not a bad system, but heroes feel more interchangeable. Some other aspects of the series were also streamlined, making this one of the easiest HOMM games to pick up and play. The graphics are pretty good, though the game doesn't support modern widescreen monitors unless you're willing to install an unofficial patch. The music is amazingly good and is worth the game's price by itself. In keeping with the streamlined nature of the game, the tactical combat isn't especially complex, but it's a lot of fun. The campaigns are also fun. Recommended if you enjoy both classic CRPGs and turn-based strategy games. If you're not into CRPGs, this might be veer too far away from the classic TBS formula for your taste.
