Russian localization missed
I enjoyed the game except one thing - an official russian localization exists for it, however it is absent on gog.com

Cheap knockoff
Music is irritating, art design is ugly, animations are horrible, reading wall of text isn't fun and maps are boring.

Mixed feelings abound
I can only give this game three stars. There is some truth in the complaint that I only wanted more HoMM 3. 3 was one of the best games I have played, and 4 fell... very short, in my opinion. The campaigns, for the most part, felt lame and uninspired. I don't remember or love most of the characters like I do Gelu, Sandro, Catherine, etc. I don't remember any of the artifacts, or why I was intended to care about the majority of the heroes. The cut-scenes were just bad, to me. Outdated graphics, scrolling text, repetitive motions of the poorly animated characters. The combat and map movement were different from HoMM3; not necessarily bad, but different. The first noticeable change is your hero in combat. You could tweak a hero to be an awesome force of terror on the battlefield, and sometimes I felt the hero to be far more important than several unit stacks. The fact that you could send heroes and monsters out separately on the map is a good innovation, but I think they could have done more with it. Dungeon combat seemed even more frustrating than usual; NOT the direction I wanted it to go. Sadly, I ended up cheating through a lot of the game. I just didn't care about it that much. Still, it IS HoMM. Just like a pizza with toppings other than your usual, it is worth trying. You may find something you like, and it won't kill you. I, however, am going to go re-re-re-re-replay HoMM3.
