One gripe.

I own this on steam. The visuals and atmosphere of this game are spectacular. That's covered in other reviews, I'm review with one specific gripe- In order to let a friend try it from the start I had to delete my own game. I was only about six hours in but this is downright stupid. Why not have at least 3 save slots, if not unlimited? There's no reason to limit save slots. It's not like I have limited hard drive space. All this does is discourage me from showcasing the game to friends (I can show them from where I'm at, but I prefer not to spoil later game content for games I enjoy).

A beautiful tech demo. A bad game.

I might be bias considering I had chronic panic attacks from the age of 9-17. They often lasted between 9pm-4am and made school nights very rough. I state this because the devs took the easiest route to represent mental illness: hearing voices and seeing falsehoods. They aren't consistent with the behaviors, making it an annoyance instead of a true challenge for the player. Just imagine a hot microphone obviously clipping (which used to mean poor production value), and have multiple voices in both ear channels. It's basically light ASMR. I felt like they used a woman for the sole purpose of making people feel sympathy for the character. They often used up close camera shots so you could see her emotions, but did the classic technique of never revealing her thoughts until they wanted you to hear a trigger emotion. Considering this was all done in mo-cap, this isn't as impressive as some believe. Many games use mo-cap, but they don't dwell on the expression of emotions as much as this game attempts. The worst part is the game's attempt at an ending. There is no ending except the statement of having to cope with mental illness. It's dumb, pretty, and a waste of your time.

Amazing

one of the best games, totally worth money, had great time, struggled many times but the feeling of acomplishing this is great. wish there were more games like this. straight masterpiece!

It is not a game, it's an experience

Honestly I have no words for this game. The graphics are great, the sound is extraordinary, the story is great. Also great is what the creators try to do with that game and bring forth more awareness for mental disorders. All in all I was expecting more of walking storytelling but the game have serioys action juice in there that keep you enough not to get bored but also doesn't interupt the story.

Good game overall

Game could have been better have they spent more time on more fun mechanics and less on the mental health part. This may seem harsh at first, but I did like the game so let me explain. The psychosis part of it, the voices, delusions, fears of persecution, all that gives it a unique flavor. But take away it and still a great game. The combat is solid, the graphics are good, the world feels very realistic, and has Viking lore. The problem is that becomes repetitive really fast. You start seeing the same creatures over and over again as with the same type of puzzles too. The story is pretty short too, about 7 hours. I felt the studios traded-off fun mechanics like crafting, character customization, variety of enemies for the psychosis part of the game. It adds to the game, no question about it, but given a choice I would like more creatures, more viking lore, more customizing and less psychosis. Reminds me of the animus part within assins's creed games. It gives it a unique flavor, but we don't buy the games just for it. We buy them for the other fun part of the game, the combat, the swords and exploration. So, overall is a good game, but could have been great. My recommendation is to wait for it to go on sale, then buy it for the combat, and viking lore.
