Game Has An Unpatched Game-Breaking Bug!

This game has an unpatched game-breaking bug in its second scenario. If it occurs, then your saved game has become corrupted, all of your progress will be lost and you will have to restart the whole game again and hope the bug doesn't occur for you the next time. When the bug occurs, you get a black screen instead of having the final mission of the second scenario load like it is supposed to do. In 2018 on their Steam forum, the devs were quoted talking about this issue. They acknowledged that the bug exists, and said they weren't going to fix it while working on their next game, Phantom Doctrine. They also promised to fix it *after* they finished Phantom Doctrine. Phantom Doctrine was released in August 2018, and I am writing this review in April 2023, after I have experienced this game-breaking bug; because contrary to their promise, the devs *never* came back to Hard West 1 in order to fix the bug. It's still present. Another major issue with this game: it made my 2080 GPU's fans spin so fast that they sound as loud as a vacuum. But the graphics for this game are not that great, and the characters are not very detailed from a visual perspective, so there is no good reason for why it should be heating up my GPU to toaster-like levels, even though it does. If you can get past all the issues I just mentioned, then Hard West 1 is a decent Xcom imitator. It's not as deep as Xcom, and it lacks the variety of weapons and enemies and tools that Xcom has, but it can still be fun. One thing Hard West 1 does very well is to have a devil character provide voice-over narration frequently as you are in the middle of playing through missions. This voice actor does a perfect job of playing a calm, cool, collected devil. I don't know how to rate this game, because if you experience the game-breaking bug, it's a 0/5. But if you don't experience the bug, or if you replay the game after you experience it and then it doesn't occur, then the game is perhaps a 3.5/5.

Developers forbid this game to shine

I played a bit of XCOM and i must say that game is buggy as fuck, but even if you go beyond bugs I still didnt find joy in it and I think its because of sci-fi theme. This game in my opinion is awesome. It has all things to beat XCOM and be a masterpiece but somehow developers found way to fuck it up. PROS: -So what i like about game is first of all visuals, Its not Battlefield 1 level but everything looks so neat and fits together, it really gives good feel. What feels weird is very stiff and basic animations but not big problem. Bigger budget would probably fixed those issues -Game mechanics and combat are very good, excellent. Very simple as cover, half cover, luck system is maybe weird but not something as good or bad just weird. It just works. -Story for me is good, yeah its classic like really cliche story but they made it interesting, When I figured who is masked man i was BLOWN AWAY! But for me they managed to destroy that feel also by reviving me and making me do some carnage. And from big + to small tiny + CONS: -This game is devided in 7-9 scenarios which last about 1-3 hours each. Each has unique minigame, like first one you buy mines, mine for gold, get upgrades, I WAS ENJOYING IT! IT WAS AWESOME. You get gear like weapons, armor and trinkets. You build your characters. Game really immerses you in story and game and THEN you finish scenario, it destroys everything and says play another scenario from scratch. Completely destroying fun. Its true that current concept would soon be boring but all it needs is some RPG depth. -It has neat ideas like shadow reveals enemies but that doesnt require your eyes it just lets you select him as target. I got game for free and I think this sale of 5€ is more than worth it but 20€ is too much. 10-15€ is reasonable price. If they made first scenario sandbox or bigger with RPG progression and depth this could be BIG GAME! My rate of 4 stars is maybe because what it could become and i really hope it does!

Wild West Strategy... Need I say more?

This game has gotten some pretty mixed reviews. However, I think it's important when critiquing a game that your expectations not necessarily come into play. I bought this game because it is a strategy game that embraces a western theme, and in my opinion they nailed it. Yes, you are mostly outnumbered, but there are various difficulty levels if you are struggling with certain levels. Honestly, sometimes I feel overpowered against 10 opponents when I have more than 2 in my party. But, again, adjust the difficulty to fit your desires. Are you trying to enjoy a story that takes place in the western setting? Play on easy and enjoy the voice acting and atmosphere! Want an intensely difficult game you can brag about beating later on? Play through on a higher difficulty and do just that! But, as far as game-play goes, the only real complaint that I have is the in-between battles portion of the game. Sometimes I get confused about where to go next, especially if I accidentally click something and skip the message. I think directing the player through those scenarios could be done a little cleaner. But, other than that, I really enjoy the customization and strategic variances that go into the fighting portion of the game. The Deck Building is something very unique in my opinion, and I love trying different combinations of cards to bring out the best in certain characters. The music is fantastic as well. I highly recommend this game!

Unplayable

A game breaking bug causes all, or some, of the points on the world map to disappear. This is a three year old bug the developers are aware of but have not fixed; their advice is to restart the game. I have played through the opening section a number of times, but can not progress through it because of said bug. Rest of the game is gated behind finishing this section, so I guess even at 2 euros, I got ripped off.
