An alright and enjoyable adventure game

Gurumin is an adventure game with platforming elements in which you'll play as a little girl fighting with a drill. Sounds like fun? Well yes, it certainly has things going for it. Still there are quite a few things that make this game not so great which I'll list below: Graphics: Well it's a bit dated. The graphics look like the game is from the N64 era. (it is a port of the psp). I can live with that. However it seems to be locked down to 30 FPS which isn't that nice to experience. Gameplay: It's a lot of fun. You have nice combo's you can do, elemental attacks and so forth. Each level has (hidden) chests and jars for you to find. You get rewarded accordingly for how good you clear a level. It has enough enemy variety to keep you going too. However... - the camera is going to be constantly in your way obscuring the view in the most annoying ways possible. You will misjudge your jumps and timing and get hurt in the process guaranteed. You can adjust the camera yourself, but that sometimes can make it worse. So you are constantly fighting enemies and the camera. Story: The story is... alright. Nothing great to be found here. It seems very generic and targeted to a younger audience. Still it has some funny dialogue moments when you least expect it. It just has enough to keep you going further. Though personally it's more for playing the levels than the story. Music & Sound: SFX are quirky and fun and well placed. The music is alright too. In some places great! In others, just alright. The voice acting is... not so great. You will get used to it, but it's not nice to listen to. So what do we find? A fun game which most platformer/adventure gamer can enjoy. It's certainly not a great game. Far from it. Together with the issues I mentioned above, I give it a 3/5 or 6/10. The game length clocks in to around 15 hours. All in all the game in my opinion is: 'Alright'.

Adventure for a reason

Gurumin: A Monstrous Adventure is a 3D Action RPG game from the masters of the genre, Nihon Falcom Corporation. It might look like a kids game, but it has enough depth and gameplay variety to entertain all groups of players. Gurumin has charming lighthearted story with a couple of "twists" (although, by some stretch) and very colorful cast of characters. The simplicity of game's graphics and trademark Nihon Falcom soundtrack make it very accessible, and it's absolutely worth playing. Give this game a try, you won't be disappointed.

RPG with a Mario 64 vibe

Very good game that I finished in about twenty hours. The game has many secrets to unlock that I could still have spent many hours on. Even though the characters are blocky, the graphics are very nice. There's nothing really original about the environments, but they have a good vibe and are charming. Personally, I'm a fan of the soundtrack. It has that good feeling that you find in old classic games. Its repetitive side can get on the nerves in the long run, however. I played the game with a controller and I can't imagine playing it with a keyboard/mouse. Sometimes certain camera angles make it difficult to control the character, but overall everything is very good. I am not a fan of the character design. They basically all have that "strange creature" look that the Japanese seem to love. The game has a story too childish for my taste, but after a few hours of play things get better. Anyway, you soon forget about it and just enjoy the game. Overall, a very good RPG that quickly becomes addictive with some challenging levels.

I love the game. It was a joy to play.

The Good The art for the game is so good. The characters for the game were cute. The only character that I didn’t like was the old creep with the big blue moustache who wants to date the main character kid and the other girl who sells food. It’s so weird to see. It’s so weird that this was acceptable to be in a videogame meant for children. Would love to hear the original devs thoughts on this. The gameplay is good. The game is easy. The world map is cool to look at. I love when you get new items and bring it back to the village, it opens up more of the map. The music is good. The Bad The camera sucks sometimes. It’s too close and it always wants to be behind the player, even when you try to move it to platform with a 2d view, it will move behind you. Some boss battles were a pain to beat because the boss was flying and your attacks in the air always force you to go down. Platforming in boss battles sucked too. You can’t save in a dungeon. If you try to and load it up, you’ll have to do the dungeon again from the start. I thought a lot of the puzzles were dumb. One of them even had you be forced to write a word in capital letters. I thought the word that I wrote was wrong because I wrote it in lowercase, and tried different words till I gave up and looked at a guide and found out the word I used had to be capital letters. And not only that, you can’t use “caps lock” to make the words capital, you had to use “shift” I think. Some dungeons are very long and grindy and I hated that. Conclusion Anytime that I played the game, I was met with a cute story and nice visuals. They don’t make games with this type of artstyle anymore. It’s cool to see. Loved the game.

Surprisingly good

An action adventure with some platforming, the combat is responsive, and keeping the rythm of your attacks is not mandatory, but helps you land more crits, which in turn makes your weapon stronger, all while you try to avoid getting hit, as damage taken makes your weapon lose power. But I make it sound harder than it is. I like the cartoonish look, it has that "megaman legends" style to the character design, with a lot of upbeat music to keep you in the adventuring mood. Unfortunately I got some minor graphical glitches like lens glare or certain objects ebing visible through walls, and the backgrounds look really blurred in comparison with character models. I swear I have heard those voice actors before, and they are trying their best, but they sound like they were given the script with no directions so they sound a bit flat a lot of the time. The story is the standard affair of a kid on a grand adventure to save the land from the big bad guy, the humor is a hit and miss, but is inoffensive. I think the game is pretty fun and I'm having a blast getting the S ranks on each level, just remember to save often, the game doesn't autosave for you.
