Ultimately disappointing cuteness...

I really wanted to like this game, it has pretty cute and well done assets: models, animation, sound design... But the bad level design, making the player lost for no reason with annoying and uninteresting fetch quest, trying to find characters that never seem to be where you're expected to find them. I think there's a reason a walkthrough is as hard to find as this game's end... Sorry, but no... I hate to have to abandon a game, especially when it's not my fault, but the player in me can't stand it anymore. With a more well researched level and quest design, this could make a pretty neat game and while I consider it a fluke, it's a pretty good first try. Hopefully Lionel Gallat will be able to do better in the future.

Great Game With a Few Bugs

This is one of the most enjoyable games that I've played in a long time. Ghost of a Tale has a ton of features, and a reasonably long playtime. The visuals are stunning, but it's often too dark in many areas of the game, which cannot be easily fixed by turning up the brightness. There are also a TON of bugs throughout the game. I've been wedged between two objects multiple times, only to find out that I had to restart the game from my last save position (very frustrating). The quests and dialogue are also top-notch, but there will be many times where you find yourself wandering aimlessly in the game looking for a particular item from a side quest. That being said, the game is highly recommended, especially those looking for a Zelda like adventure game.

Beatuiful game, with no music

It is truly a beautiful game, there is lore, there is great aesthetics, and certainly a lot of good ideas - like collecting pieces of clothing, then if you dress up in the full set, you get different reactions from the NPCs. I love the RPG elements, nothing special, but just enough to keep things interesting, and feel like you are progressing. The stealth is a bit basic, but again, nothing to complain there, because the NPCs' awareness is forgiving enough to make up for it. What sets this game back a lot though, is the lack of music. Music is usually a very crucial part of any audio-visual experience, as it can change your mood, it can strenghten the scenes. But for some reason, this game lacks any kind of music, you can hear it here and there, but when you just walk around the world, there is only ambiant noises, and it makes it all very grim and depressing very quickly. I was actually thinking, that this game could feel almost like Fable, if it had music to support it, but this is, what it's really missing. Overall a great little game, definitely worth the money, but if they could make a "remastered" version, with some beautiful music, it could be so much better.

I loved this game through and through. I loved the dialog. I loved the characterization. And I loved the location. I just want a chat history tucked away SOMEWHERE!.

Shiver Me Whiskers!

Ghost of a Tale is a simple, beautiful experience. It is not so much a true "game" as it is a perfect snippet of a well-crafted adventure. If you're looking for a more traditional Adventure / RPG experience, this isn't it - but if you're open to a delightful one-set adventure fueled by witty writing, memorable characters, and adorable design, you can't get much better. Gameplay consists of evading guards, collecting objects, and using a small arsenal of non-lethal tools to solve problems. Some of the mechanics can be a bit tedious, and if you find yourself bored at any time, shut it off and come back to it when you can appreciate the atmosphere. But the true soul of the game lies in the narrative. To properly enjoy the game, you have to lose yourself in the dialogue, the exploration, the world-building, and the characters. It all builds up so naturally and so seamlessly that you actually look forward to finding and talking to the same characters over an over again. In summary: Play it for the experience of being a minstrel-mouse, appreciating the masterfully-crafted dialogue, and exploring a lovingly designed world! THINGS I WISH I KNEW: Read the "books" in your inventory. Wear full costumes when possible - it makes life easier. When you're stuck on one quest, keep going on another. Throw things at non-rat enemies. And for heaven's sake, use exploding pinecones on the worm-holes.
