Freespace 2

I remember playing this on a Compaq Persario 2240, i saved up and bought a brand new Voodoo3 2000 PCI gpu and the game got even better, yeah that's how old i am, now fast forward to 2016, i still love playing this game (have it on Steam). I Love this game, the controls are awesome and very intuitive, the graphics, for its time, are freaking awesome, the story is SICK AF, specially the 1st time you see the C........... sorry no spoilers here. i will add this, i suggest you mod it to bring it up a notch, took me months of trying to learn how to mod, and fail, till i came across this gem http://www.fsoinstaller.com/ simple installer, though does take a while due to size of some mods and your speed, it even includes a story where you play prior to the great war against an ancient race that has some sexy asp ships, if you do get stuck modding the community around fso installer are really helpful and some are super patient with noobs like me. will i ever stop playing this game, nope, because i suck but want all the medals. will i force my kids to play this, you bet your bottom dollar i will will my kids force their kids to play this, they better or else "that's a paddlin"

I was lucky enough to play this when I was much younger and it was only years later that I realised the reason I fondly remembered the voice acting so much in this game was because it is by the fantastic talents of Robert Loggia, Ronny Cox and Kurtwood Smith to name a few. The games mechanics borrow heavily from the wonderful X-wing/TIE Fighter games and when combined with a long, engrossing and excellently narrated campaign it results in a truly epic space shooter that deserved so much more attention than it received. 10/10.

Sci-fi fans, action lovers, guys who crave epic plans from outer space - this is an awesome, packed game that seemed to have no weaknesses whatsover. You will fly a wide array of ships with different, yet easy-to-manage armaments. You will command your wingmen. You will learn to micro-manage your craft in combat, or you will just smash that fire button and fill the evil destroyers of the universe with holes even they cannot repair. You will blow things up. We're not talking yer olde li'lle booms here. You will blow up ships that are over a mile long, and when they go off, it makes exploding planets look like cheap fireworks. You will blast your dogfighting enemies into pieces that bounce off your cockpit, and hear your wingmen's "Impressive" on the radio soon after. If you are not interested in the fine complexities of the game, you can tune the difficulty and enjoy it as a great shooter. I've played many Space Games: Elite, ProtoStar, Privateer 1&2, The Wing Commander Series, Freelancer w/ different Mods, Dark Star One, Space Trader, and then I picked up a copy of Freespace2. As good as all the previous Space-based games are...so is Freespace 2. If you like the adventures of Space based gaming, then you will also add Freespace2 to your collection. I did recently and I am extremely pleased with my decision. Additionally, I've purchased additional copies for my friends and neighbors. Why should I have all the fun? Following the story line makes this Sim worthy of adding it to your Sim Game Collections. You will not be disappointed!
