Once in a great while, a video game comes around that will be playable for many years to come, this is THAT game. You being a lone pilot flying your squadron throughout the stars only be dwarfed my colossal ships firing bright beam cannons upon each other, dodging enemy flak, fleeing the the shock wave of a fallen cruiser was ripped apart by your missiles and hitting your afterburners to evade the enemy after they got a deadly lock on you. You feel so small in this universe, and yet you are part of something so much bigger. The plot line is incredible, a roller-coaster of emotions, fear, panic, joy, victory. Multiple climax points and certain questions left unanswered that you sit and ponder the meaning of your existence in this game. This game is simply amazing and I have yet to find an equal. If you are thirsty for more combat after this game you can download the source code project with fan made campaigns. I hope you enjoy this game as much as I do!

THE best space sim ever bar none! Better even than the quintessential classic that is TIE Fighter! The graphics, the story, the awesome beam weapons and gargantuan scale of capital ships all make FreeSpace the epic swansong of this genre. Its a real shame no one makes space sims any more, I'd love to see a FreeSpace 3.

Brilliant controls, an engrossing storyline, awesome graphics (especially with mods) and a great atmosphere. After the incredible game that was Descent: Freespace, this game expands and improves on its predecessor. Although I dream of a third Freespace being made, the amazing mods made by fans give you a massive amount of great content to experience. Simply put, I cannot recommend this game enough. A true classic.

Just download this Game, the free Add-Ons and enjoy gorgeous Graphics, fast paced Dogfights and the full Conversions like "Babylon 5" and "Wing Commander". Worth the Money big time.

Bought this game when it first came out, having been a huge fan of both Descent and FreeSpace 1 before it. Found my original disks in the loft the other day - had no luck installing them on Windows 7 64-bit - but had no problem installing via the version hosted here on GOG. The game runs fine as things stand - but if you want to see this in high resolutions and with modern eye-candy such as 'shine maps' and much more detailed nebulas, ships and asteroids take a look at the FreeSpace Open project. My old Logitech Wingman joystick has come out of a 10 year retirement and I'm loving working my way back through the classic campaign mode. If you ever played the X-Wing or Privateer series - this is the game that took that genre to another level. Highly recommended pure dog-fighting joy!
