A rollicking Roller!

This is a great racing game of muscling your way past equally motivated car racers to win the race. The various race courses are well done with most of them wide and easy to navigate. the most noticable part of this game is the physics engine and car damage modelling which is excellent. Cars lose parts after smashing into roadside obstacles or other cars and in some scenes the entire road can be filled with shrapnel flying all over the place. I've even gasped at some stunning dynamic crashes where a car infront will go into a catastrophic cartwheel at high speed crossing over my path as I speed under it! Sometimes you even hear the driver screaming as well! You as the driver can also find yourself flying through the windscreen (or rather the model representing you as I always drive 1st person), which for some reason always makes me laugh, despite the fact that I've probably lost the race. It's funny, yet with a serious message,-don't do this for real, folks - or keep your seatbelt on! One or the other! The Ai does an excellent job of getting through the chaos, I must say, even taking several alternative routes, yet can easily make mistakes like you. On a critical point, there does seem to be some kind of catch-up on since I tend to get back into the race very easily when it feels like I should be well behind- Graphics and sound are VERY respectable for such and old game. While the physics follow reality sometimes, the cars don't and manage to carry on far longer than they should. But I found it immersive enough to actually wince when I or someone else smashes into a brick wall! Only real criticism is the typical American rock music which does very little for me and the strange fact that you cannot personify your vehicle aesthetically. It would've been nice to choose colours and car graphic designs. There`s a 2 player hotseat mode but no split screen from what I can see. I've been playing almost every quiet moment I can get. I would recommend this racer.

A TIMELESS CALSSIC WITH A KICKASS OST!

call me nostalgic , but i booted it this game today and behold, the game still looks amazing, it held it's own, everything in it, from car models, tracks, handlning, car sounds and the music, the amazing music, simply put, this game can easily still compete with the best that 2019 can offer.....oh if only the series continued like this.....a classic, simply amazing, buy it, u won't regret it, the only game that i sing along as i play and feel no shame...

One of the most FUN racing games

Just finished the whole career mode and it certainly is the most fun one can have in a racing game that offers so much more. You smash your way through the environment AND your rivals trying to come first in races that are diverse (street and offroad races, not to mention the special events). The best part is that the difficulty is very balanced, do you race well? You win. Do you make a mistake? Good chance you'll get overtaken. Your rivals are always breathing in your neck but don't feel overpowered. Better yet, you'll often witness them spinning out, crashing and eventually wrecking their cars without you ever touching them (but spinning them out yourself is also a very fun tactic). But what is more satisfying than being able to earn money (to upgrade and buy cars) by literally smashing into them with a nitro boost? And that's exactly where this game excels other racing games. But sadly after a while the dopamine kinda stopped flowing for me. Cups sometimes consist of (too) many races and when you invest in the wrong car, you're going to have a bad time for a while. So it's good practice to test drive all your cars before buying them and making the right investments into car upgrades. (and if all else fails, there are cheats to make your life better)

Improved over FlatOut 1 in every way

While FO1 was fun at the lowest (Bronze) level, it got quite grindy and tedious later. FO2 OTOH is tons fun through and through. Though same tracks are reused throughout different racing cups (and I wouldn't mind if there were some more) they still vary enough that I never got bored with them. Also, the absurdly slippery snow tracks from FO1 (where you flew off the track every other turn) are gone. Yay! While it still happens that someone might hit and spin you off just before finish, 90% of the time you'll only crash due to your own mistakes. IMHO the best change is that you don't need to finish among top-three on every single track to unlock the next one. If you earn enough total points in each cup (which consist of a bunch of tracks - usually 3 to 5), you can advance. I actually managed to get gold in *every* cup (not counting the optional silly "events" - destruction derby, ski jump etc.) - even though I didn't win every track. Races were challenging enough to keep it interesting, without ever becoming tedious. Now you can earn monies not only by winning, but also by hitting other cars, shoving them into obstacles, doing fastest laps, damaging the environment etc. All that income suffices for gradual upgrades to your car - not necessarily to beat every opponent in every race, but enough of them to come out on top in every cup totals. Meaning, you don't need to buy each new car you unlock. Actually, if you choose your starting car for each of the three classes well enough, you can finish the whole class with it (if you prioritize stability of your chosen car over its speed - at least this worked for me.) I only bought one extra car in the top (Street) class for the heck of it. (I already had all the upgrades for my Scorpion and still earned enough dough for the Canyon.) FO2 requires somewhat more resources than FO1, but still runs perfectly well on weaker computers. In every possible screen resolution and with improved graphics to boot. Fully recommended!
