Great crash'em game!
I was a huge fan of the Burnout series, but still a hardcore gamer. When I first played a demo of FLATOUT, I was hooked. The game has great crash physics and seeing your body fly into the road is usually good for a chuckle or two. But this game is one of my favs because it's just a great arcade racer. Worth the download price!

Super fun racing!
I haven't had this much fun with a racing game in a very long time. The graphics can be really quite good, I'm running two Nvidia 7800GTs in SLI, smooth motion, lots of detail and tons of flying car shrapnel. The sound track is good, very appropriate for the on screen action. What I really like the most is the excellent feeling of connection with the car, most driving games be they simulator or all out arcade have a sense of disconnect with the car. I can cut apexes super tight with perfect timing and adjust through the corner. Don't get me wrong, it's no sim but a very good combination between arcade and sim. Double thumbs up. One last thing, I'm using an Xbox 360 wireless controller and the game has a build in sensitivity and deadzone adjustment, tweaking the controls to my preferences was easy and rewarding.

Occasionally frustrating, mostly fun
This game is heavily in the "arcade" end of the arcade-simulator spectrum, so you're in for some mindless fun and occasional demolition derby. You can select realistic handling, however, if you want some challenge. On realistic, loose gravel is very loose and you'll have trouble even going straight. One nice gimmick of the game is that every object has its own individual physics. This means that, for example, every time you hit a tire wall, the tires will scatter around and bounce randomly. There's a fair bit of rubber-band AI, but considering that smashing into stuff (and your fellow competitors) is part of the game, that's not entirely a bad thing. When you crank the graphics settings to maximum, which you can easily do on a modern PC, the game doesn't look half-bad, either. The soundtrack is awesome, but starts repeating itself after a few races. In short: If you're into arcade racing, pick this up.

Worth playing, but nothing to die for.
Nevermind the crazy ragdoll physics, odd sluggishness when using analog steering, or the pseudorealistic gameplay, this is a decent game. My only real complaint is that it gets old fairly quickly if you're not a die-hard fan, as there is little variety in car choices (as opposed to the sequels). For six bucks, you could do a lot worse, however I personally would recommend an old NFS game (like Hot Pursuit 2).

Fun action racer- but...
I really enjoy playing this game- especially with a xbox 360 controller. The racing is fun arcade style, there is an career mode where you race, win money and invest it to tune your car or buy new cars and last car standing demolition. The crashes... lots of them with a damage system. Anyway, one thing that bothers me is that some parts of this game really remind me of early 90s racers and that is... the fact that all that damage doesnt seem to affect the cars physics? Also its next to impossible to bump other cars out of your way- it seems they are glued together if you try to give them a bump. Then again, the other drivers make their own faults, too. Even leading cars- which is really funny. I love and hate this game xD
