F.E.A.R. Platinum

A short opening cutscene with kickass music, a brief tutorial, and then the gloves are off. Tight gunplay against intelligent enemies that ambush, double-back, and flank. Level design that enables basic exploration and enables the enemy to enter organically and take new offensive directions. Generous bullet time that makes lining up shots easier, and lets you appreciate the physics and lighting engine as bullets tear apart flesh and explosions send dust flying. The plot is functional and largely inoffensive, which is all you can ask for. Gameplay is limited to gunplay/melee with little movement variety, but the game provides just enough variation to gunfight scenarios to shake things up. And the atmosphere, while not always scary, is immersive and unbroken. Not the biggest fan of the late game enemies, but otherwise, you're looking at an excellent shooter.

This gem will never get old, defined a generation.

I played this once in college back in 2009 and it spooked the daylights out of me. I played it on a friends computer and by the time I had my own, years later, I had forgotten about it. But then I saw it on GOG and I had to pick it up. It's every bit as good as I remember. An absolute CLASSIC FPS that no gamer should go without. Everyone needs to climb that ladder at least once...

20 years on and still very few FPS games have better feeling weapons, action, and AI than FEAR.

Still a great game after all these years. I thought playing on GOG was the way to go since the Steam version is crap but after playing for several hours (running great) I stopped and when I picked it up the next day all my saves were gone and would have needed to start all over. So unless you plan to play it nonstop I suggest not purchasing it...I thought GOG was better than this...
