Still the best...

For me (and I write it with a heavy heart) this is still the best in the series! No open world, just pure action. As I see it, this game (comparing it with the subsequent games in the series) is a very solid proof in gaming that not all games and settings in games are fit to be designed and played into an open world/theme park. Also, a very good rescue-the-lady story which turns out to be something bigger.

Fun game, broke AI.

I just completed the game and enjoyed most of it, but the cursed AI was definitely still broken for my playthrough. The final battle took me forever to complete because the AI has perfect aim and can see through solid objects from across the map.

Not Far enough, but Cry enough

It's no wonder it's Crytek. The graphics are indeed comfortable. This light, this water, and this vegetation density are truly enjoyable. Although the indoor environment is a bit lacking, it's not a big problem. Each level of it is composed of a large scene combination or a medium scene. In a sense, it can even be said to be an open-world game that advances in a level-by-level manner. I personally recommend playing at the hard game difficulty. At this difficulty, the combat ability is almost on par with that of the protagonist in a 1v1 situation with enemies. Players can be forced to utilize the resources at hand to adopt more flexible gameplay and reconnaissance planning to actively experience the game's excellent route design. For instance, in different levels, depending on the terrain, players can take measures such as stealth, guerrilla tugging, vehicle snatching, or directly bypasses non-default login points to attack the enemy. These are unlikely to be actively attempted by players on easy difficulty levels. But at the same time, in high difficulty, the randomness of the enemies also increases. Sometimes, even if you have bad luck and keep dying, there's nothing you can do. Not to mention that in the later stage of the process, everyone is a heavily armored warrior. Moreover, the alien monsters that fly over only need a few quick attacks to kill you. As a result, I chose to skip at level 18. Even when I switched to the easy difficulty at level 19, I died many times. But it's indeed happy. While the pressure is at its peak, it's not so desperate, allowing players to think more rather than blindly attack. There is such a beauty of playing Extreme Panic 1 but having no bullet time. PS: If you want, you can turn on the AI option and have a try. The enemy will actively seek cover and hide. It's just a pity that there are no subtitles. My English is not very good, but fortunately, the language difficulty is not high.

The game that kicked Doom 3 in its face

In before the Far Cry, there were two kinds of FPS-es. The ones that used the Quake 3 (IDtech 3) engine and the ones that used the Unreal ones. And then, out of nothing came Crytek and roflstopmed Doom 3 and its claustrophobic corridors. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the game that showed Carmack that one can make real time shadows with nearly unlimited view distance. Enough of the history lesson. Far Cry as a game was quite revolutionary back in its time (and still is). Mostly sandbox like, you can chose which path you take. The graphics are awesome (even in 2009), the AI is pretty smart -altough a few times a brick can outsmart it- and the level design is just amazing. Quite a few times you can reach your goal on foot through the jungle, on a conveniently placed boat/jeep and even on gliders! The one letdown in the game is the introduction of those mutant things. For me, they totally threw off the gameplay for many reasons. They have no AI -if you get within a certain radius they go for you-, they instant die when touching water and simply, they are just ridiculously overpowered compared to the mercenaries. The multi-player is pretty great. Reminds me of Enemy Territory. Haven't played it in ages, so I have no idea if its active at all. All in all, buying this game is a nobrainer for anyone who likes FPS games. PS.: The big dual rocket launchered mutant thingies weakspot is not that glowing bit on their chest -they take less damage there-. Aim for the head!
