Fallout: New Vegas Ultimate Edition

Don't know if the vanilla game runs well in modern hardware but the modded game is stable and FUN!

I remember playing FNV first when it came out. Unfortunately, it was riddled with bugs and I remembered getting frustrated. I played it again recently and after all the patches (plus a few mods) it runs close to perfect with few minor bugs. The main story I personally find not that interesting, but the various NPCs, factions, and side quests are some of the best in a RPG. The writing is worlds above what Bethesda has in its own Fallout games. Most of the voice acting is also superb, which helps with the immersion. Pity that Obsidian didn't get another chance to make a Fallout game.. P.S. The DLCs are disappointing and not worth playing, IMO.

If there were no late game bugs (like, 50/50 chances of game crashing when you enter NV) -- I would've rated it 5/5. Also, late game happened a bit too fast -- but that's on me, there was no need to rush it. Other than that -- nice F-game. Waste multiple entire weekends and was happy about it.

This is a combined review, having originally purchased the game on Steam. New Vegas is an excellent example of an RPG being moved from old school isometric to 3D first-person without sacrificing much of the depth of the series. The storyline is very well crafted in a way that makes almost any given build viable, the game world has plenty of backstory to uncover through exploration, the characters are memorable and interesting (for the most part), and the mechanics feel like what Fallout 3 should have been from the start. All that said, there are some fairly glaring issues. New Vegas Anti-Crash and 4gb RAM Patch are patently essential, as the base game is notoriously buggy and won't use more than 4gb of RAM from the outset (and honestly, nobody has been running with less than 4gb of RAM since 2010). The start of the game is pretty railroaded, since almost everyone in the starting town will tell you to go south to get to New Vegas and the northern passage is loaded with Cazadores and Radscorpions. There's also a fairly clear bias towards the NCR, supposedly brought on by tight deadlines, but the end result is a Legion with next to no redeeming qualities outside of some roleplay opportunities. All in all, it's a worthwhile RPG, and there's little more I can say that hasn't already been said to sing its praises. Buy it, mod it, and go wild!
