Interesting story, frustrating puzzles.

Not much to add to the previous reviews except this: Story: Very interesting one and very compelling at the same time. Although it gets confusing after awhile. Gameplay: Cursor could be bigger and fixed in the middle of the screen. Sometimes it was difficult to see it if the environment was too bright. Inventory should be bigger and you should be able to see interaction points. Puzzles: Many of the optional puzzles were very frustrating, because the clues were scattered around the place and it was very difficult to keep a track of them They should have introduced a diary type of logging so that you can go back and check the clues you've discovered. What's the point of doing optional puzzles or even an optional level? Overall execution could have been better. It looks like the developers had great ideas about the game, but not enough either of time or money to execute it properly. Buy it on sale.

A fine first person adventure

I've read several online reviews of this game, and all are generally positive. While the Myst comparison is obvious, I am surprised that no one has noted the similarity with the 90s classic "Amber: Journeys Beyond". Amber has always been in my all-time top ten list of adventure games, but due to difficulty in running the game on modern operating systems, apparently many have not played the game. For those who have, Ether One involves the same kind of investigation of a dementia patient's mind that Amber explored with ghosts. Hopefully, GOG can add Amber to its collection in the future. Until then, I heartily recommend this game for first person adventure fans who appreciate atmosphere and do not mind wandering around in an abandoned environment in search of clues.

One of my favorite "Walking simulators"

Interesting Game

In Ether One, you are tasked with exploring the damaged memories of an Alzheimer's patient in an attempt to restore them. The (entirely optional) puzzles are occasionally frustrating, as they're very much implicit - you'll find a broken projector which gradually repairs itself as you solve more components of the puzzle. Sometimes it's difficult to connect elements of the environment with their puzzles, but through careful exploration, patience and maybe a notepad by your keyboard it's a rewarding adventure. As all the puzzles are optional, you have the choice to play this game in two different ways which both alter the experience. You can play it as a Gone Home/Dear Esther styled interactive story, collecting the red bows and reading diaries and letters to fill out what happened, or a Myst-style environment puzzler which unlocks audio logs, encouraging further engagement with the story. Those who complete all the puzzle are rewarded with an optional second ending. Ether One is a new experience for me as a game and although I was hesitant first entering its splintered world, I'm very glad that I've had the opportunity to play through a title that presents such a unique perspective on the role of the 'self' in mental illness.

This game makes me sick!

Really. Playing it for a few minutes induced nausea. You interact with things using a cursor that is fixed in the middle of the screen, meaning if you want to do anything, you have to shift the mouse so it's right in the middle of where you are looking. This is bad enough on its own, but the cursor is a few pixels, & some of the things you have to click on are fairly small, which means much shifting & juggling of the 'camera' until you have the cursor lined up perfectly. Judging by the rave reviews, it's probably an excellent game if you can play it without feeling ill, but do not get this game if you have any issues with the sort of constantly-needing-to-look-all-over-the-place camera movement you get in FPS games.
