A superb adventure game

This is probably the worst Monkey Island adventure game - I really can't decide between this one and the one Telltale Games made - but it's still such a great adventure game. I had loads of fun with when Escape from Monkey Island was originally released, and I am finally going to have a great time with it again thanks to GOG. The only really sad part about this game is that now, many years later, it looks much worse than the Curse of Monkey Island, which was released three years before the Escape. Otherwise, it's still more or less pretty-looking and sounds amazing even now in 2018.

The worst in the series

I really wanted to give this game another shot but I just can't stand it: Really ugly graphics, even for the time, annoying controls, sub-par humour (especially compared to the earlier ones) and a narrative that just annoyed me. Even the puzzles feel off in so many ways. I can only recommend this if you are a hardcore fan. If not, skip this game and head straight to Tales of Monkey Island instead.

Underrated gem

Definitely the weakest in the series, but it's still a very well crafted game with its own sense of style; the 2d backdrops are gorgeous and yeah the 3d models aren't the best but they still have a wackiness that can be appreciated. The plot takes a daring risk with a new villain taking center stage and is arguably the most interesting in the series. Puzzles can be brutal but they still make sense in that zany Monkey Island fashion, plus GOG have kindly provided a hintbook with the game so you can't really complain there. As a follow up to the amazing epic that was The Curse of Monkey Island, it was never going to measure up, but it's still a worthy entry in the series and definitely memorable with plenty of funny moments.

An unerrated adventure game

This is a very good and way underrated adventure game from Lucas Arts. It is often dismissed because of its awkward keyboard and mouse controls, but it was really designed to be played with a gamepad. Escape from Monkey Island features a good story full of clever satire, some well designed puzzles, and lots of memorable new and returning characters. It does have some frustrating parts, but the rest of the game more than makes up for that, so if you have a gamepad laying around, I hightly recommend giving this game a try. It is a worthy addition to the Monkey Island series :)
