Good game, not for everyone

I like Elex a lot but you have to tear through it. And not just in a "it becomes better after x hours", it never becomes better. You start tearing and maybe last couple of hours you feel like a demigod, but the rest of the game is a struggle. I usually don't like artificial difficulty in games and prefer well designed player strength progression over the hell elex puts you in. Here's why i still give it a positive review: The world took me in instantly. It's a mix of science fiction with lazer guns and robots, fantasy knights in armor with swords and magic and mad max on top of that with drugs, raiders, mutants and ruins of a world long gone. I think the world is a hit or miss, either you like it enough to play or it wont work for you and neither will the rest of Elex. Worldmap was definitely made with love. There are four distinct areas, lots of documents and files about the old world, secrets and just neat things to see. If you loved exploring pre war facilities in fallout this is the game to scratch the itch. Whats so hard about it? Game is not fair, imagine starting an mmo in an endgame area: you suck, your weapons suck, you cant take a hit, everyone is using you for fetch quests and your most reliable tactic is to GTFO at the first sight of danger. Once you realize what part of the food chain you are and accept the rules of this world, elex becomes this weird yet captivating game of rising through ranks, slowly earning the power bit by bit. Elex rewards exploration and using everything that you have at your disposal. But it's... well, it feels not done. Like it's being stuck in early access forever. It's playable, it offers a lot of fun, but be warned about the jank.

Absolute attention to detail

This game has its flaws, yes, but damn does its soul make up for it. I followed an NPC for 5 minutes after I handed in a quest just so I could see him walk to another NPC and deal with the fallout of my choice in the quest. This is a detail that NO ONE will ever really see, but they had minutes of dialogue just because it made sense! The minor details make this game special, and you can tell the devs cared about this game

Игра удалась!

Мне данная игра очень понравилась! Сам я играю на PS4, оформил предзаказ и не жалею. Эту игру не стоит сравнивать с класическими экшн RPG современности. Многие считают, что РПГ это игра с прокачиванием лвл и навыков, но это только от части, главная суть РПГ - это итыгрывание РОЛИ! И в данной игре это сделано очень качественно. каждый ваш поступок, решение или ответ в диалоге скажется на ваше прохождение. Да я согласен, что механика боев в игре не самая лучшая, но зато она интересная и бросает игроку вызов. Эта игра не про "затыкать до смерти все что видишь на экране". Эта игра про атмосферу, квесты, диалоги и обдумывание своих действий. В игре много секретов отсылок и пасхалок, что меня очень понравилось. Даже самое начало игры очень сильно напоминает Gothic 1. Поведение персонажей обстановка и квесты будут вам напоминать старые проэкты компани, и меня, как старого фаната Gothic, это очень радует. Так же по уровню сложности игра оставляет далеко позади 1 и 2 Готику. И это тоже плюс. Ведь это заставляет нас тщательнее выбирать свои действия. Ну и на самом деле, игра дает нам множество вариантов для решения поставленых задач, просто порой необходимо сделать не так как ты привык. Уровень графики тоже радует глаз. Да я согласен что анимации не "выший сорт" но сама картинка очень классная, все детали очень тщательно прорисованы и у игры есть свой уникальный стиль. В заключении скажу, что игра не без недостатков, но получилась очень даже хорошо. Надеюсь Elex разойдется большим тиражем и компания Pirania byts подарит нам еще не одну прекрасную игру!

Poor execution of a good basic concept

The setting and fundamental concept of Elex is good, and the overall structure of the game is not revolutionary. The graphics are good, the scenery is great, and the provision of a jet-pack to allow you to get almost anywhere is a nice touch. Unfortunately, the quest leveling is awful, the combat engine atrocious, the weapon scaling sparse (one weapon in a tier requires DEX 11, the next 33, the next 60), and you will spend 90% of your gameplay time searching for trash mobs you can actually kill to gain experience to level up far enough to have a hope of surviving your current quests, only to be given a new set of quests you are again too low-level to survive with the atrociously clunky and non-cooperative combat system. And that's on "Easy". Having a companion is little help UNLESS you can somehow maneuver your companion into engaging first, otherwise you'll likely be already dead by the time your companion gets around to noticing that you're in a fight. To make matters worse, far too many of the quests either double-cross you or force you to choose between double-crossing someone else, wrecking your faction reputation, or forcing you into courses that will seriously hurt you later in the game. ELEX needs at the very least better-leveled quest difficulty, a better scaling of weapons so that you don't have somehow gain five levels to be able to wield a better weapon, and a combat system that doesn't leave you flailing at air because your target moved while the game was thinking about getting around to starting your swing, or doesn't leave you locked onto a target on the other side of a rock or a wall and unable to switch targets while another casually kills you from behind. Did they play-test this AT ALL before releasing it...? I really tried to give ELEX a fair chance to win me over, but in the end it just wasted my time and pissed me off.

First Piranha Bytes RPG

I'm too young to have played gothic 1+2 when they came out but this caught my attention because of the cool setting. Honestly it's the best RPG I've played since New Vegas, the world is fun to explore, the quests are solvable in multiple ways with some allowing you to shape the story depending on your faction, with previous quest decisions tying into them. All around it's really great. However, PB aren't good at making a polished product, there's some dodgy voice acting (in the english release), and the combat is poorly animated despite being mechanically sound. I'd recommend it though if you want something old school or if you're a fan of this developer.
