Rather enjoyable yet bit buggy roadtrip
Game is quite TellTale-esque game experience with most of its gameplay; you get to make some choices, have different conversations and reactions with folks around you and choose how to handle different situations. Game does include also optional combat sessions, which are... fine, i guess? They are straightforward, nice way to have a break once in a while during the journey. Then there is the infamous elephant in the room. I cannot say with good faith game wouldnt include rather lot of inserted thoughts and certain aspects some find offensive or are got enough of them, considering current world and its flow. Personally i didnt find it bad, though at certain points of game developers seemingly rub in in your face. Nevertheless, your character and her friends are wanted by officials for their special powers which play crucial role in combat and storywise and you fight them because of that. Not because of.. "woke". Thing that mostly annoyed me were multiple occasions where when choosing way to respond on certain situations the whole game would softlock; no ones says or does anything, basically game is waiting for some input or conversation to end before activating my choice - however nothing happens. This happened constantly and only way to resolve it was to exit to main screen and load last save. Luckily game autosaves constantly so there is not a long way to go to same situation. I have no regrets buying this game and with TellTale-esque way things played out, this could have chance for interesting sequel to show what happens after. May it become reality or not, this was enjoyable for what it is.

A game unfairly criticized
You only have to look at the fact that most of the negative comments come from people who don't own the game to realise that they are in no way indicative of its real quality. As Ragnar Tornquist, the game's director, says, it's a story about learning to live together again, understanding how words can hurt and even destroy, and learning to accept others. A message sorely needed in today's world. In this sense, Dustborn's story is full of emotion, inclusivity and the rage for justice that minorities carry within them. The gameplay suffers from a few clumsinesses, but these are more than made up for by the game's fine values. Neither toxic nor hateful, whatever you may have read.

Neat game, interesting story :D
So what is this game actually about? It's a game about a group of friends on a mission to deliver a mysterious package across the country, but they also stole it so they're being chased by the police. They still have plenty time on all sorts of interpersonal drama, because this is actually a game about friendship, honesty, and solidarity. Your main character is a person with voice superpowers that however channel negative emotions and one of the themes of the story is how you deal with it and whether you can do better as a person. The overarching story is about people with other superpowers, kinda like x-men, who are social outcasts, kinda like x-men. How do you play this game? It's essentially Dreamfall Chapters, even some of the story themes and visual themes are similar to that game, combined with Telltale-like story altering choices, and even combat + a little rhythm minigame that goes with the undercover music band theme. How does the "telltale" thing work? Most of the main cast have 3 attitude types. If they're in a certain attitude it affects their reactions in interactions with the main character and their decisions during key events during the story. When you choose to affect them through dialogue or other actions, they get negative or positive points to a certain attitude, so they can switch their attitude during the story and their final attitude will determine their personal ending. The main character's ending is determined by your choices throughout the whole story. So you have quite solid variety on how the game goes and what epilogues you get. How does the combat work? This is a Unity engine game that comes with its funky optimization and occasional glitches that are mostly noticeable in combat, so it's a bit clunky and feels a bit unnecessary, but guess what! You can skip combat entirely if you just want to enjoy an adventure game. Final words: I liked the game, enjoyable characters and interactions, and interesting, sometimes even emotional story.
