Dungeon Keeper™ 2

Quirky, recognizable and funny: Dungeon Keeper 2 is one the most beautiful depiction of an 'Evil Lord' simulation of all time. As a... welp, technically it's a strategy game, and there is a little bit of strategy. But in actuality for the majority of time you'll be digging and constructing your liar. Furthermore, the Managment of your minions shall be a key part in this game. I really like the idea of not being able to controller them directly... although you can still pick them up, smack them around (as a true D&D BBEG), rally them or directly possess them through the use special spells at your disposal (yes, you can control them but it's not like clicking around and directly see your order carried out). As far as story and design go, they are done in a satirical way and have that particularly jovial humour of the age (90's) which is quite enjoyable. So, worth buying? As one the masterpiece of the past and as a true classic of the entirety of the genre (still unbeaten), and also considering that to this day is still fresh, enjoyable and a blast to play... yes? go buy it now... It's a Keeper! (yuck)

I finished playing the original Dungeon Keeper, but was unsure whether I should download the second one or not because of the negative compatibility reviews. Those are old. There are very slight compatibility problems now, as the serious problems have evidently been sorted out. The slight problems are not always there for me, but are just hiccups when starting the game up. If the hiccups persist I will just switch to safe mode and everything will run perfectly and smoothly. All the old problems that may have been there have been sorted. I'm running Windows 7 and also downloaded and installed all the items that could be installed from this download. So, everything works now. The game itself is absolutely awesome, by the way.

The most recent reviews were saying that the game is broken in 2022 had me worried but I downloaded it and played the first three levels. Works totally fine except some audio glitches. (totally bearable). Just installed and ran from GOG. Windows asked me install DirectPlay. I see some discussion about patches so im not sure the current state of things when it comes to gameplay but I just wanted to leave a review saying it's working fine for me

Will not run on Windows 10, receiving constant error messages saying "application was unable to start correctly"

Purchased this a week ago (2018). I had to use the old "dx2" executable, not the "dx2dx" which would not load missions at all. Even that was quite crashy and unreliable, very hard to adjust the graphics options, but I got some campaigns done and experienced the basic gameplay. I don't recommend playing it long term. Origin also offers the title, but as their download platform is worse I can't compare the two versions.
