Dragon Age™: Origins - Ultimate Edition

If you want quick, full-throated roaring action, this is *not* the game for you. The combat is the very definition of tedious, exasperating and frustratingly dull. The story, if you can hang in there, rewards you as entertaining, the characterizations interesting and the romances satisfying, if you like that sort of thing. Pair this story with DA:2's combat and it would have been unbeatable. Alas. Three stars for the story and characters. No stars for the painfully awful combat and sluggish fight animations. Does it deserve the frothing and slavishly bestowed 'legendary' status it has? No, not remotely. It had novelty and talent behind it, but the execution was ultimately not what it could have been. Buy it on sale, and praise to the excellent work by the writers and voice actors.

This game should be taken off the market because it simply does not run in Windows 10.

Everyone else is saying that this game is pretty much the distillation of Baldur's Gate + everything that is good about EA's RPG experience: Baldur's Gate is to Lord of the Rings, Dragon's Age is to Game of thrones. That should be enough to give you an idea of what to expect here.

OK, so the war is raging and I'm told by my father to find my eldest brother and tell him to lead the troops to Ostagar, where father will join them later. And then, when I'm on my way to his room, whichever road I take the same guy corners me with a message, that my dog is messing up in kitchen, that my mother wants me to deal with this IMMEDIATELY, and that he is to make sure, I do. I can't get rid of him, until I deal with the dog. I can however wander through out all castle, get XP for opening different doors and stashes; I can spend time looting some probably pretty worthless things from sacks of grain and from some chests obviously not belonging to me (to which my mother-appointed guardian doesn't object); I can meet my mother and spend nice 10 minutes trading courtesies with her guests; I can even join the Taskmaster giving lesson to kids on my family's history and spend another 30 minutes doing so... the only one thing, that I can't do (except entering the castle's treasury, which is understandable) is to open the door leading to my brother's room, which stays magically locked until I deal with my dog at the other end of the corridor. Truly GREAT. I would have spent less time playing this game, than writing this review, if not for collecting all the facts mentioned above and making sure that, as I expected, the "Right click: Can't unlock" description on the door blocking me from seeing my brother indeed does magically change to "Right click: Open" once I get my dog and kill 7 or 8 giants rats, that he was after. Do I have to add, that the result of the "dog adventure" doesn't in any other way influence my meeting with my brother? Sadly, not the kind of magic, that I was expecting paying for this game :(
