Dragon Age™: Origins - Ultimate Edition

The best Dragon Age and the best Bioware's game in my opinion. You have your classic high fantasy settings with elves, dwarves, magic and so on with a twist. Yes, the main plot is about stopping the ultimate evil, but this doesn't make the world black and white. The "good" guys aren't romanticised heroes. Elves are locked in ghettos and they are treated as second class citizens. Dwarves have a strict caste system that forces the poor to turn to criminality. Mages have to live with a constant threat that their gift might turn them into abominations. And Grey Wardens... They really won the lottery. What I mean, this is not your classic tale about good vs. evil. Bioware finally abandoned their binary moral system and they present you with interesting morally grey choices. You don't get to choose between "light and dark" side anymore. Add interesting flashed out companions, tactical fighting system, awesome soundtrack, several origins for the main character (depending on the race and background), solid presentation and you're in for the treat. Just emerge yourselves in this bleak experience and become Grey Warden - a hero nobody wants to be.

A dark fantasy RPG that is based on the formula of classics like Baldur's Gate. The graphics still hold up pretty well and if you get lost in the game's complexity you can easily put 100+ hours into it. At the beginning of this game you get to choose your race, sex, class, skills, attributes, name and some other cosmetic stylization. (Eyebrows and face tattooes!) (Hah!) There's six different beginning stories with their own origin stories, hence the title Dragon Age: Origins. All unique and worth seeing. You get treated differently based on this choice as well. This game has a special place in my heart. It's a classic and it challanged other game designers to be more innovative. I highly high-ly recommend this game.

Dragon Age: Origins is a masterpiece in every way and I'm thankful I finally got to enjoy it for the first time this year! As a fan of BioWare since Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic and Jade Empire, I was incredibly looking forward to playing this game. It astounded me from the very beginning, delivering a complex, compleling narrative with true consequences, heart wrenching moments, and the best written companions in any RPG I've ever played (including BioWare's other amazing games). Lelianna is my absolute favourite 💖 Every companion is well thought out, with hilarious and interesting banter throughout the game. The characters feel alive, the world feels alive, the lore is meticulously crafted and refreshing in a genre that relies on tropes so much. I enjoyed the fun and strategic combat, especially when you can specialize your character with different builds. There's tons of replay value! After applying the GOG patches, I followed a modlist to update the graphics and further fix some bugs, plus integrate the DLC better into the base game. The game runs flawlessly with zero crashes and still looks wonderful all these years later, so anyone worried about performance or aesthetic can have peace of mind. This game will leave you in awe so many times, whether that's laughing or crying or having so much fun you really feel like you're part of the world. When the journey is all said and done, it culminates into an experience you will carry with you always...and then return to like the haunting, angelic notes of Leliana strumming her harp and singing her song to remind us that life, while perilous, will always be full of love no matter what.
