Doom 3

I love Doom3! People complain that the game is on a rail. I don't like huge areas with many different ways to go, and for me to get lost. Even though it's on a rail, I still get lost a little sometimes. The CD code is a sad joke! I almost deleted the game because I couldn't find the key code!!!! Luckily, DADDYCML, in his negative review, shows exactly how to find the key. You can't find it on the GOG site. You have to enter GOG through your browser. DADDYCML explains it in detail. Thanks DADDYCML!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Great

I love GOG to purchase my games, but it feels like most reviews for games are so picky, including the review for Doom 3 BFG. I still remember getting Doom 3 on PC when it originally came out. The BFG edition is perfectly fine and there's no reason to have the vanilla doom 3 digitally. It'd be different if it was something like the resident evil remakes, then I'd understand having the original PC releases. Doom 3 itself is vastly different beast then the first two, filled with darkness, jump scares and a bit slower. While I like the new doom reboots, this still may be may favorite reboot of the originals. It's slower then a boomer shooter, but the combat isn't as slow as a tactical shooter. The weight of the weapons and the weapon sound effects are fantastic (the plasma gun firing is forever stuck in my brain). This game is still one of my favorites and on sale it's an even sweeter deal. Side note: Doom64 (which I believe is only on steam) is fantastic

Maybe they just shouldn't call it Doom

The game was ahead of its time, and I believe it still holds up today. Expect an FPS horror game, and it will not disappoint. Don't play it right after any of the newer Dooms expecting a similar experience, because it will feel slow and dated. The platforming can be a little finicky and frustrating some times, especially for the completionist that wants to explore every nook and cranny. As a game, for the time, I think it is really great. I personally don't have a strong opinion regarding the vanilla vs BFG edition. Just pick one, and enjoy it.

The OG Doom 3 is back!

With GOG.com having recently added the Original version of Doom 3 and Doom 3 Resurrection of Evil back to digital distribution, the world of Doom 3 modding opportunity returns! Especially with mods like Classic DOOM, the OG Doom 3 shows why the original versions of games are so important to have available on this website. Thanks to the crew and people who made this happen - I know it's not always easy negotiating for original versions (and maintaining compatibility), but at least on my initial tests, the original game works great out of the box on Windows 11 with no tweaking or graphical glitches to work around. It's so great to be back!

It's fun and that's all that matters.

Others have written really elaborate and thorough reviews so I don't need to. It's simply a good fast space horror shooter with a great atmosphere, so get it on sale and prepare for a few scares - and a few cheap jump scares - but it is fun and THAT is all that matters. I bought it on CD when it came out and later on Steam, so I just had to get it on GOG because I just love the freedom of not having any DRM software all over it. Yes it is showing it's age a little today, but with the computer power that everyone now has it will run with full specs as smooth and as fast as you like. P.S. The BFG version is just a more refined and polished version of the original, you get both so you can choose which one you like, the original has Mod's so you can try both and play the way you want.
