A three star review for a five star game

Divinity: Original Sin 2 - Definitive Edition is a continuation of the game style laid down in Divinity: Original Sin. it has been said enough about how good a game it is, I enjoyed playing D:OS1 and look forward to immersing myself in 2. My only issue is the handling by Larian and GOG in the distribution of the game. The System requirements on the game page at GOG state Storage: 25 GB available space. Divinity: Original Sin takes just 10.1GB on my hard drive. The download size of Divinity: Original Sin 2 - Definitive Edition is 45.6 GB and takes over eight hours on a relatively fast connection to download. It takes over a half hour to install and the final installation size is 54 GB. When you start the game a menu offers the option to play the new Divinity: Original Sin 2 - Definitive Edition or the classic edition with the warning that old classic saves will not work in the Definitive Edition. Looks like some genius decided to make us download and install both versions in case we have old save files! Where did we get the old save files from? The classic version already installed maybe? I don't know. So, if you already have the classic version installed why do you need to download and reinstall it? Why couldn't there be two separate installs to choose from so only 25 GB of space was really needed for either the Classic or the new Divinity: Original Sin 2 - Definitive Edition? Keep this in mind if you have limited space on your hard drive or a slow download speed and hopefully this will be addressed in the reasonable future.

Do no expect old D&D Infinity quality

For me the game was disappointing. I tried hard to like it and I tried several times to start it again and again. The story seems promising, the humor is good, the characters are decent....BUT the fights..the fights. The sluggish fighting system destroyed everything for me. Maybe I am too much used to Baldurs Gate / Icewind Dale etc. where you can choose between real time fighting and round based or maybe I am only not good and ambitious enough. Yes there are a ton of skills and tactic possibilities but imo they are for nothing when a little fights lasts for twenty minutes and you fell asleep during an enemy move. I am very sorry because I was looking forward to play this game....

Garbage Game

I got DOSII on Steam (before I got GOG) to see how Larian does games before BG3 was available on EA. Boy, oh boy, was I disappointed. If this is the pinnacle of CRPG's, I'm scared to learn what the worst is. I think DOSII gets good ratings only because of its co-op feature. Playing a game with your friends can make even the worst game enjoyable in the same way good co-workers can help you deal with a crap job. DOSII does not offer a quality single-player experience. Alternatively, the praise is due to mods. Mods are not an accurate measure of a game's quality. If a game relies on mods to be good, it's not a good game in the first place. Case and point, DOSII has a broken inventory system, and every DOSII fan will tell you to get a mod for it. How does a AAA developer like Larian mess up inventory? Combat is utterly exhausting, even on easy mode, and even the encounters in the tutorial. Even the most insignificant battle against insects or rats is a dire struggle for life. It's not a matter of "git gud," it's a matter of metagaming. You cannot build your character however you want, you're required to min-max and power-game to accomplish anything. Logic will not help you either. For example, poison is flammable and bony fingers can pick locks in DOSII, even though neither is the case IRL. Logic also requires information, and this game sets you up to fail by keeping you ignorant. There seems to be a story, but it's so poorly conceived even Larian made it not matter. A character, I can only assume is the BBEG, wants you dead for no given reason, and rather than doing it themselves when they were literally 10ft away from you, they run off and summon a sea monster within the first 10 minutes of the game. And that's all the story I saw in 15 hours of playing. You then wash ashore on an island where you're left to wander aimlessly. No goal or anything. There is still more I could say, but I'm restricted to a character limit. Don't be fooled by the fanboys. DOSII sucks.

Stuttering mess

I know its years old and I did enjoy on my xbox, but I now have a decently pwerful Ryzen 7 pc with a 3070 ti and caboodles loads of ram and its a totally unplayable stuttering load of old rusty nails. I do wish I'd checked on google first as this hasnt been fixed ever in 6 years. There must be some very patient reviewers round there because there is no way their experience was smooth. Save your money, it is a great game, play it on xbox gamepass instead for on PC its yet another unoptimised waste of an RPG
