Diablo + Hellfire

I was fascinated with Diablo II as a kid because of what looked like a grim reaper on the front. Convincing my parents to buy it for me, I eventually got around to playing it while being scared shitless. Later on, I also got a hold of the first Diablo CD, but never got around to playing it. Diablo IV coming out convinced me to give this classic a try. Unironically, I got more addicted to this game than I did to Diablo IV. Nothing beats the focused precision of these older games nor the atmosphere they're capable of invoking with such primitive technology. Their mechanics and graphics can be critisized for being "outdated" all they want to; Diablo held my attention until the very end which most modern games of not capable of doing. This in itself is a massive achievement, and a testament to Diablo's timelessness. Quite simply, the game is actually fun. Isn't that what these things were designed for? One would think so, but the picture becomes obfuscated and less intelligible when you begin to compare the present with the distant past. In short, give this a playthrough if you dare. I credit early titles like this influencing my taste for such a dark and ominous aesthetic. It's 2023 and my heart was still racing fighting the low-res bosses in this gem.

I started with D3 and then the second one and now the first! Stay awhile and listen... I started with fighter, and slowly but surely went deeper and deeper into the Cathedral of Tristram... The atmosphere of the game is 10/10! The dark medieval setting with a fairly simple story, with plenty of lore if you read the Manual for the game. Graphics and sound design are totally right, especially the Tristram Music. (sometimes its more like a horror game) BEWARE new people, it can be a really frustrating game if you don't think about what to do!!! The first floors of the game are really just feeding on skeletons, lesser beasts, and smaller elites. The Butcher and Leoric are easily managable if you save and pack potions up. From floor 5 I started to feel a certain difficulty, mainly the ranged mobs, and fast melee ones in tight hallways. There's total of 16 levels with some side quest areas. You should speak with the townsfolk, they can give you quests, which are not needed, but they can really ease your pain when you face hordes of demon lords... Some quests are random, the main story quests are always available. In multiplayer these are really simplified. What you really have to consider: GOLD - Yes gold, which is crucial to your survival. Potions, equipment, elixirs, repairs. They are not cheap. Be wise when to use health or mana pots. When to buy a new armor or sell the old one. Save game - Live with this perk. Save after every mob, level, purchase. -Stat priority - It's really important if you wouldn't like to spend hours to hit something, or run out of mana too fast. Dexterity improves hit chance, intelligence bolster mana source, strength needed to equip items, vitality expands health pool. Also you may spend gold on elixirs, which will add +1 to your desired stat. Multi is good, I tried it, it's harder and you cannot use your SP char there. 3 difficulties are really nice with nicer loot. IMO Diablo 1 is a really enjoyable game, hope you will like it :D

This is the most Complete Edition of Diablo I. At the start of the game you got a launcher, and you can choose between: - Diablo with high resolution support (That doesn't mean, you can play in HD! It's the same old 4:3 graphics, but will run fine nicely on your big, new shiny monitor. No stretching.) - Diablo classic with battlenet support and SVGA graphics - Hellfire with high-res support (this is base game + expansion) See? This package is all in one! Don't forget to read the end of the manual for a looong prequel story!

For me this is going back to my secondary school times. God knows how I played this for 6-10 years, even after D2 came out, just to hit that maximum of lvl 50. I still remember how happy I was when that Dragon's ring of zodiac dropped. Those of you who played the game know the feeling. But if you haven't played the game then you need to be prepared for a few issues. Graphics is archaic by today's standards: there's no 3d, just isometric view. Character movement and attacking is limited to 8 directions. Save for one character-specific abiity, all other abilities are spells that all classes can learn and utilise. Character development is determined by set maximum values of Strength Dexterity Magic and Vitality. However, you do get to choose when and where to spend atrribute points. Make no mistake: this is not D3 where you can hit all 70 character levels in one evening. Here you have to grind, grind, grind to level up to maximum - after lvl 40 it gets way more difficult to gain new levels. Good loot doesn't drop like crazy, contrary to D3. In D1 there are no set items, no legendary items, just gamic items and uniques. Game is limitted to just one town and a total of 20 levels (16 main levels plus Tomb of King Leoric, Chamber of Bone Poisoned Water Supply, Unholy Altar. Still, despite limited technology Blizzard created a heavy gothic-like atmosphere thanks to memorable bosses and side-quest locations. And of course then there's Battlenet and other multiplayer options. Classic hack 'n'slaning foes with a party of 3 friends online? Definately yes, please.
