Deus Ex™ GOTY Edition

I am a huge RPG fan, and this game is both a RPG and something more. There's no class or role or good/bad system, you can be enything you want. I completed the game 3 times, and everytime as a different character, and everytime was like playing a different game. The gameplay was different, the story was different, the NPC responses were different. And everytime I had a lot of fun!

How could they? One of the best games I ever played (and replayed). The first time my computer was too slow so I had to play the stealth way picking enemies one by one. Hacking, invisibility, sniping and backstabbing were my companions until, in the later stages, I found the enemy soldiers were talking about being afraid of an invisible assassin. The second time I had a better computer and I choose the fighting path. Than I replayed it again taking different decisions. Every time I found something new. Buy and play it!

I bought this game full price when it first came out as a shrink wrap game. Over the years and many moves, I had lost it. Now that it is on GOG, I can reacquire it in a manner I know will work and not fill my system with problems. If someone were to ask me, "What are the best computer games you have ever played?" I would without so much as thinking rattle off, "Deus Ex and Fallout..." and then I would pause to consider the many hundreds of other games I have purchased over the years to see what might come in as a distant third. Deus Ex is that good of a game.

If there was ever a game I wished so much to erase from my mind so I could experience the same joy received upon first playing it then it was Deus Ex. It is a highly atmospheric and heavily polished roleplaying shooter with similar attributes to System Shock 2. It gives players the ability to choose how they want to play with a complex skills system and many different ways to accomplish missions. You can go in the front door shooting, sneak your way past confrontations or even turn powerful robots against their would be masters. This also gives Deus Ex a high level of replayability and every time I seem to discover something new. I tried different skills, augmentations, weapons and weapon modifications in all manner of missions and overall they all worked well and provided even satisfaction. If the gameplay didn't provide enough entertainment the excellent conspiracy narrative and awesome cyberpunk style places you in a nefarious and intriguing world which you will explore every inch of. To complement that is an amazing series of techno music tracks which adapt to the gameplay as you enter conversations, fight enemies and explore. Together with System Shock 2, Deus Ex shares the spot as my favorite two games ever. I've played to an utterly insane degree because I keep coming up with new ways to beat missions. And when I jump off a ten story building and slice an MJ12 trooper with a gigantic nanotech blade, I can't help but smile.
