Descent

I've played through Descent 1 & 2 probably about 5 times each over the course of the years since their release. They are timeless classics that will keep you coming back over any over again. I listened to the soundtrack of Descent 2 repeatedly, there are 1 or 2 annoying songs but for the most part each song adds to the atmosphere of the game giving it a sense of depth and epic seclusion. The atmosphere of the games is disorienting and claustrophobic but in a really good way. There are also thousands of fan made levels for both Descent 1 and 2. This is another reason that this game still has legs. Endless variety. Some of the fan-made levels take advantage of the fact that the Descent engine allows for creative geometry that can overlap itself. I remember the day I saw this. I was at the Egghead Software in my area and there was a very persnickety store worker there playing Descent I on a Gateway 2000 Pentium Tower PC. Man, that PC was the sh*t back then, I still remember looking at it. Anyway, he was playing this game which required the player to maneuaver in every which direction, I was in awe. What a game. I had to buy it. It ran flawlessly on my PC. At the time I was running it on a Packard Bell which I upgraded to a DX4-100 processor, and 16 Mb RAM. w00h00, those were the days. Computers were a lot more fun in those days, weren't they? That's why I like GOG.com so much. These guys bring back such good memories.

this is the best game i have ever played my dad used to tell me about it all the time then we found it here on GOG it is a great game best i have played anyway sure wing commander is good too but this out does them all blowing up robots bosses and reactors it is packed with action and hours and hours of game play i would recomend this game to anyone

Because few things were better than installing 20 copies of descent in the computer center and competing for hours between work on papers and study. The game made a few folks sick, but we were OK with that, and politely sat in the back of the room where other people's guts wouldn't be turned.

I got a trial copy of this game with our 486 It instantly became my favorite and once I got past the trial(I was 10) I had to have the whole game! The dynamics are unlike any game to date( I have over 200 games on steam). You play a mercenary in a prototype space ship, and your mission is to clear various mines where the local robots have gone bonkers and are threatening earth! the soundtracks were also my intro to techno and are composed by artists like skinny puppy... the second game really stands out in that you have a guide bot that takes you through the level if you get stuck and they doubled the weapons .... My only gripe is that this download does not have the vertigo expansion ( hint GOG hint). Any way if you are new to the series and are willing to put up with old graphics strap in for some fun in a cult classic .
