Flavourful flawed fun
It's basically a simpler, smaller Hitman with Reaper as the protagonist. The idea is great, although it could have used a bit more work, especially regarding the story and length of the game - where Mark Of The Ninja (an obligatory 2d stealth game example, seeing as it's a masterpiece) has a lot of replayability and ways to beat the levels, Deadbolt can be tad more conservative and restricting as to how you can achieve your goal. It can be demanding and frustrating - but unlike Hitman, MotN or even Not a Hero, I didn't have as much fun executing my plans - partially because of how some things have to be pixel-perfect in order to get stuff right. Despite all of this, it can be a lot of fun if you're into stealth/tactics games and thanks to the fairly unique setting, it isn't just another copy of better-known game. I really want to give it 5 stars, but it's shortcomings are just too much, even for a self-professed stealth lover. If I could, I would give it 3.5, buuut I can't, so what the hell, let's round it up. I hope there is a sequel (if not direct, then at the very least a spiritual successor) and that it expands on what Deadbolt got right (and could get it even better) - ideas, gameplay mechanics and story.
